UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE.
VER-NE E. MINICH, GF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPGRATION QF OHIO.
MACHINE FOR TREATING SAND AND SIMILAR MATERAL.
Application filed February 23, 1923.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, VERNE E. MINICH,
a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the count-y of New York and 5 State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Machines for Treating Sand and Similar Material, of which the following is a full, clearconcise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to machines for treating sand and similar material, and particularly to machines for treating sand for reuse in foundries.
@ne of the objects of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and advantageous machine of the class specified Another object of the invention is to provide simple, practical and expeditious mechanisms for cutting or otherwise treating` the sand or other material and for discharging the same in a windrow or the like.
In the accompanying.drawings F ig. 1 is side elevation of a machine embodying my present invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawings I show a ma- 30 chine comprising a wheeled vehicle having Va body frame. 1 and large front drive wheels 2 and small steering wheels 3. The driving wheels 2 are driven by a suitable power device such as. an electric motor t with power transmitting connections to the wheel axle 5, such for example, as the worm and wheel arrangement 6 and sprocket chains 7 and 8.
A sand collecting treating and delivering device l0 is shown suspended underneath the body frame 1 and preferably comprises a traveling belt mounted to travel over wheels 11 and 12 mounted on axles 13 and 14, respectively. This traveling belt is preferably provided with pins or projections 15 which will cut and break up the sand or other material. The front end of the belt is located near the ground so as to strike into the sand lying on the foundry floor and cut and elevate that sand and carry it baokwardly as shown by the arrow in Fig. 1, and deliver it in the rear of the machine in a windrow, or any other place as desired for use.
The traveling member 10 is driven by a suitable power device, as for example, an
Serial No. 620,600.
electric motor 17 and suitable power transmitting connections such as the gears 18 and 19, the bevel gears 2O and 21 and sprocket chain 22.
Thus a very simple and practical arrange` ment is formed by which the sand may be readily cut and then discharged or delivered from the machine as desired.
lt will be understood that changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What I claim is:
1. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device extending from the iioor at one end of said vehicle upwardly to the other end thereof and provided with means adapted to lift and treat material as it lies on the surface on which the vehicle travels and discharge the same as desired.
2. A machine of the class specified coinprising a wheeled vehicle a traveling belt device mounted thereon and provided with sand cutting members, said belt device having one end located near the surface on which the vehicle travels so as to gather, cut and lift the sand, and being extended rearwardly and operative to convey the sand rearwardly and deliver it from the machine.
3. A machine of the class' specified comprising a wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device carried by said vehicle and having its front end located near the sui-face on which the vehicle travels and being extended rearwardly, said belt device being adapted to lift, treat and discharge the material.
4. A machine of the class specified comprising a wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device mounted thereon, said belt device being provided with means for lifting the material from the surface on which it lies and for treating it for further use, and also for conveying said material rearwardly and discharging it so as to form a windrow for foundry use.
6. A machine of the class specified comprising a Wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device mounted thereon, said belt device beingu mounted yso that its forward end may be located near the surfacel on which the machine travels in order that the front end of the belt device may come in contact with material lying on said surface, said belt device extending rearwardly and being provided with driving means whereby its upper surface is driven rearwardly and being provided with cutting members adapted to cut the material against which the front endof the belt device comes in contact, said material being carried upwardly and being cut by the upwardly and rearwardly moving belt surface.
7. A machine of the class spec-ined comprising a wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device mounted thereon, said belt device being mounted so that its forward end may be located near the surface o n which the machine Vtravels in order that the front end of the belt device maycome in contact with material lying on said surface, said belt device extending rearwardly and being pro* vided with driving means whereby its upper surface is driven rearwardly and being provided with cutting members adapted to cut the material against which the front end of the belt device comes in contact, said materialy being carriedrupwardly and being cut by the rearwardly moving belt surface, said belt device being. arranged so as to discharge the cnt material in one or more windrows for foundry use.
8. A machine of the class specified comprising Va wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device mounted thereon, said belt de.- vice being mounted so that its forward end .may be located near the surface on which the machine travels in orderthat the front end of the belt devic-emay come in contact with material lying on said surface, said belt device extending rearwardly and being provided with driving means whereby its upper surface is driven rearwardly and being provided with cutting members adapted to cut the material against which the front end of the beltdevice comes in contact, said material being carried upwardly and being cut by the rearwardly movingbelt surface, said belt devi'cebeing arranged so as to discharge the cut material in one or more windrows for foundry use, said cutting members comprising outwardly extend ing pins or projections.
t). A machine of the class specified coinprising a wheeled vehicle and a traveling belt device carried thereby, said belt device having one of its ends located near the floor on which the material to be treated is placed and being extended rearwardly and provided with outwardly extending pins or projections for treating said material.
