PATENT OFFICE.
EMMETT M. DUNLAP, OF SAN PED-RO, CALIFORNIA.
FLY BOOK.
Applcation led November 27', 1922.
T all whom t may concern.'
Be 'it known that I, EMMETT M. DUNLAP,
a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing at San Pedro, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fly Books, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a fly or tackle receptacle for tishermens use.
My primar i object is to produce a device of this character in which a great number of iies may be arranged in a small case or receptacle to afford instantaneous selection of any one of the flies wit-hout necessitating the turning of leaves, as is common in the book form of such devices.
A further object is to produce a device of this character in which a. suitable covered case which has arranged therein any desired number of 4rows of tubes separated from each other by pads, said case having its outer face at it-s upper end part-ly open whereby an inspection of the flies in any of the tubes and an instantaneous selection of a 25 desired fly may be readily obtained, the said case being also provided on its outer face with a bellows-like pocket in which leaders, etc. may be carried.
The drawing which accompanies and forms part of this application illustrates a satisfactory embodiment of the impro-vement reduced to practice, and whe-rein Figure l is a front elevation o-f the improvement.
Figure 2 is a sectional view approximately .on the line 2--2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-8 of Figure 2.
Figure 4t is a sectional view approximately on the line 4-4- of Figure l.
The ease l may be made of any desired material that is waterproof, aridas dis closed by the drawing is in the nature of a rectangular member whose upper end is open. The outer face of the case has its upper end disposed a considerable distance below the upper end of the back of the case so that the outer face of the case is thus partly o-pen, the purpose of which will present-ly be apparent. In the case there are Serial No. 603,564.
preferably removably secured by a cord or the'like any desired number of longitudie nally arranged vertically disposed tubes 2. The rows of tubes are separated by any dev sired number of pads 3.
On its outer face the case is provided with a bellows-like pocket or pockets 4 which opens at its upper end and which is designed for the reception of leaders, etc.
Hinged, preferably through t-he medium of a strap 5 to the back of the case l there is the flanged closure 6 of the improvement. The closure has its outer face provided with a fastening element 7 designed for engagement with a coaeting member 8 on the outer face of the receptacle.
The flies are arranged in the tubes and it .will be apparent that upon opening the cover 6 the said flies may be instantly inspected so that they size and pattern desired may be likewise instantly selected. i
My impro-vement entirely overcomes the necessity of turning leaves and losing flies in streams of water, as is common with the well-known device for this purpose. The cover may be opened by simply laying the vdevice upon the anglers lap, and the guts will remain straight in the tubes so that the crimping or twisting thereof will be entirely obviated.
I-Iaving claim l. In an article for the purpose set forth, a case having its front partly open at the mouth thereof, tubes arranged in rows in the ease, con'ipressible pads spacing the rows of tubes, a cover loosely hinged to the back of the case, and means for latching the cover on the case.
2. In an article for the purpose set forth, a case having its front partly open at the mouth thereof, tubes arranged in rows in the case, compressible pads spacing the rows of tubes, a bellows-like pocket on the front of the oase, a ianged cover loosely hinged to the back of the case, and means for latching the cover on t-he ease.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
described the invention, I
EMMETT M. DUNLAP.
