The opening surrounded by the flange 4 is ot a size equalling that of the hole in which the pipe 1, or rather the coupling 3 on the outer end 4of the said'pipe 1, is received.

The bushing 'isfalsofprovided with a head 14. The head, liketlle'hollow stein is rounded in plan and-ligas its bore coincident with the bore 'of the stein. The head 14has its inner 'edge vformed with an annular depression providing a pocket 15 for a hydraulic packing` The bore in the` head' is surrounded by an annular depression 16, and there are threaded l,pcrtsl' communicating with the said depression. 'The remaining pipe sec-v tions A,vary .in 'diameter and are received one within the other, each being provided with a bushing substantially similar to the bushing above described. The head portion of all o f the bushin s is provided with outstanding 'downward y rounded e'ars 18 for engagement with the vhooks of the derrick. A hydraulic acking 19 is forced in annular pockets vin t e heads of the bushings to establish a gas and watertight joint therebetween. In this manner it will be noted that a tight joint is-maintained between the respective strings of pipes, in the hole. The stems of the respective bushings extend downwardly and inside of the stems-of the next lower bushing' and are placed free of said lower bushing, thereby permitting a free but control-led outlet for gas or water -that may be comingfrom between any two rests on the bushing 11 communicates with the depression 16. The lbushings are proj vided with threaded ports 21 that communi- -cate with the depressions 20. The ports 17 and 21 are designed to have screwed therein either a valve or a .pipe whose pas sage is controlled by a valve,` and in this manner it will be seenthat the gas and water between any two ofthe strings of pipe may be controlled This is a very important feature of the invention. The ports 17 and 21 may be also used as' inlets in case it is desiredto pump'mud or cement between two strings of pipes. Both the pipe and the base of the bushings are formed from a good grade of steel casting toren-der the construction strong and 1durable. The' pipe sections may be readily removed whenv the well is dry or when'the drillers fall to locate oil. The vimprovement enables 4the driller to absolutely and immediatelycontrol the outlet or exhaust of Water and as coming from the hole without interferm'g in the least with the balance of the rig and machinery. It also enables the driller to pump cement in between any two strings of pipeinstead of pumping the same down the inside casing', and around the bottom; The
. concrete foundation and the heavy metallic base member 1 insures the proper arrangement of the couplings and the 'pipes carried thereby in truepvertical positions.

` but I .do not wish to be restricted to the construction illustrated', as I may, at a later means. Therefore, my invention is to be '.restricted only by the scope of what I claim.
