13e it known that VAUGUST ZonLLnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacred Heart, in the county of Pottawatomie and State of Oklahoma, has invented certain useful Improvements in Multiple-Section Removable Screens for Cotton Cleaners, of

which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

In most cotton cleaners and boll breakers now on the market, and especially the Munger type, the screen for the spiked cylinder beaters or cleaners is in one piece, there being a screen concave for eachycylinder beater or cleaner, and it has been found, in practical experience7 that this construction and arrangement involves the disadvantage of requiring the entire screen to be removed in case of needed repairs or an entire new screen substituted. In other words, should any one of the screen concaves become damaged, the entire screen must be removed to make the repairs and if beyond repairing a whole new screen must be installed.

The present invention has for its purpose to provide a multiple section screen and, obviously, in this case should any one of the concaves of any one of the sections be damaged, it may be removed without disturbing the others to permit of repairs and if repairs are not possible, a new section may be inserted instead of the old section.

Another purpose is to provide a screen for the spiked cylinder beaters wherein the sections thereof may be slid into and out of place, there being in conjunction with the multiple section screen an angle frame adj ustablysupported in a chamber under the cylinder beaters so that either one of the sections of the screen may be individually removed, it being possible to either repair the section or substitute a new one without disturbing or disposing of the remaining sections.

Still another purpose is to provide, in a cotton cleaner and boll breaker, an arrangement of concave screen sections which are easily reached by lowering the supporting frame (which constitutes a floor for the compartments in which the cylinder beaters are operable), there being means at the ends of the frame for supporting the same in said compartment. lVhen the supporting frame is lowered, one end protrudes through the door in the casing of the cotton cleaner and boll breaker, the frame being disposed in an inclined position to accomplish this result so that any one of the sections may be separately removed.

It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative and that, while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modifications of detail and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to the circumstances.

The invention comprises further features and combinations of parts to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

Referring to the drawings, l designates the frame of the cotton cleaner and boll breaker having a compartment 2 wherein a plurality of spiked cylinder beaters or cleaners 3 are mounted, and l denotes a supporting frame for the screen. This frame at its inner end is operatively mounted upon an adjustable rod 5 and is constructed of angle iron and mounted in the lower part of the compartment 2. The adjustable rod 5 may be placed in any one of the plurality of apertures 52L to support the frame 4 in different positions. Cleats 13 are mounted upon the inner faces oli' the sides of the cleaner and boll breaking machine frame by means of bolts 111 which may enter any of the apertures or openings 15 to hold the cleats in different positions according to the adjustment of the pivot rod 5. Suitable wedges 16 are supported upon' the cleats and these wedges, in turn, support the frame 4 which, in turn, supports the screen sections 10 of the screen 9, -Each section of the screen 9 consists of a frame 11 provided with a screen concave i2. When these screen sections 10 are in position, the screen concaves are concentric with and conform to the shape of the cylinder beaters, as shown clearly in Figure 2.

The wedges 16 are secured in position by means oi? suitable set-screws 17, more clearly shown in Figure 6. Then the wedges 16 are removed by detaching the set-screws and the frame et` lowered, said traine will projectpartly through the door opening.

Obviously, it is Apossible to have a. number of these 'screen sections with each cotton cleaner and vboll breaking machine so that, in removing any one of the screen sections for repairs, one of the additional screen sections may be substituted for the damaged section, provided repairs to the section are impossible. However, if the screen section can be repaired and the time required to make the repairs is extremely lonO, a new section maybe substituted while the old section is being repaired, ob-

viously saving considerable time in oper-V ating the machine. It will be noted that :the screen sections may be easily and very yquickly inserted and removed, there being no extra -space necessary in the back of the lrame of the machine for mounting of the screen sections.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed is:

'1. in a cotton cleaning and boil breaking machine, the combination with a frame Vprovided with a compartment wherein a plurality of spiked cylinder beaters is oper? atively supported, of a multiple frame screen, each screen frame having a screen concave conforming to and cooperating with the cylinder beaters, and means operatively supported in the lower part of the chamber to support. the Yscreen frames in position, said means consisting of asupporting Jframe with its innermost end operatively detachably supported in said chamber, said supporting frame adapted-to-,bef inclined downwardly with its other end protruding partly through an opening vin the machine frame, whereby any one of the screen frames' may be separately removed-j 2. 8.- In a: cotton cleaning and boll breaking machine, the combination with a Jframe provided with a compartment wherein a plurality of spiked cylinder beaters is operatively supported, of a screen supporting trama-means for adjustably and pivotally supporting said screen supportingframe below the cylinder beaters, individual screen sctions on the supportingframe, and removable wedges operatively mounted on the sides of the boll breaking machine frame for retaining the screen supporting frame in position. j

5. In a cotton cleaner and boll breaking machine, the combina-tionwith a frame provided with a chamber with a plurality of spiked cylinderbeaters supported therein, or' a multiple frame screen, each with a screen concave conforming to a beater, a frame with one end supported within the `cleaner frame, whereby the other end may swing downward, said frame screens being 1n separable arrangement, allowing the frame screens to be individually removed when one end of the supporting frame is lowered, and means for holding the supporting frame in a raised position, whereby the concaves of the screen frames may conform to the beaters, said last named means and the supporting frame being adjustable spaces between the concaves and the beaters. 10
