.ALLEN D. BORING, OF LAKELAND,

EYEBRUSH.
Application led March 3, 1924. Serial No. 696,648.
To all whom t may concern.
Be it known that I, ALLEN D. BoRlNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lakeland, in the county of Polk and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyebrushes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet an elhcient device which will quickly and easily remove cinders and the like from the human eye, provision being preferably made whereby the device may be used normally as a watch charm, so that it will always be in readiness for use to remove cinders or other foreign matter.
With the foregoing in. View, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying` drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a side elevation partly Vin section showing the cap in place over the lament which is used in removing` cinders and the like.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Fig. l, but illustrating the cap removed so that the device can be used.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view showing more particularly the manner of mounting the lament.
Figures 4 and 5 are transverse sectional views as indicated by lines 4 4 and 5-5 of Fig. 3.
In the drawing above briefly described,
the numeral l designates an elongated tube preferably formed of metal and having one Closed end 2, while its other end is open. A hair, bristle, or other filament 3 is bent into the form of a loop and the ends thereof are inserted into the open end of the tube l. Then, a plug 4 of cork or other desired material, is forced into the open end of the tube to frictionally hold the ends of the filament against the tube walls. Thus, by grasping` the tube, it will be seen that the filament 3 may be manipulated in a very convenient manner for removing a cinder or the like from the eye.
If desired, the plug 4 may be much shorter than the tube l, so as to leave a space 5 between said plug and the closed end 2 of Said tube. One or both of the ends of the filament 3 may extend inwardly of the plug 4 and be bent and housed in the space 5, so as to always have a surplus 6 of filament on hand, in case the loop should become broken.
I have shown an elongated tubular cap 7 for the filament 3, said cap having a closed end 8 and an open end, the latter being adapted to receive one end portion of the tube l, the insertion of the latter being limited by a rib or the like 9. For connecting` the tube and cap in a manner to permit them to be readily detached, I have shown project-ing studs l0 on the tube l which are receivable in bayonet slots ll in a cap 7. The closed end 8 of this cap is preferably provided with an eye or the like 12, by means of which it may be attached to a watch chain or to other desired supports, so that it may be conveniently carried and accessible for use whenever desired.
As excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous changes may be made.
I claim:
l. A device for removing cinders and the like from eyes, comprising an elongated handle-forming tube open at one end and closed at its other end, a flexible filament bent into the form of a loop and having its ends in* serted into the open end of said tube, and a relatively short plug in said open end of the tube frictionally holding the ends of said lilament against the tube wall.
2. A device for removing cinders and the like from eyes, comprising an elongated handle-forming tube open at one end and closed at its other end, a flexible filamenti bent into the form of a loop and having its ends inserted into the open end of said tube, a plug in said tube frictionally holding the ends of said filament, and a tubular cap normally fitting over said filament and part 0f said tube, said tube and cap having' a readily releasable connection with each other, said cap having an eye for attaching it to a watch cha-in or other support.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto atlixed my signature.
ALLEN D. BORING.
