HANS ANDREAS PEDEBSEN, 0F EADBJERG, NEAR HADSTEN, DENMARK.
LIFTING GEAR FOR BAERELS.
Application filed Octob r as, 1922. Serial. in). 597,190.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HANS ANDREAS Pn- DERSEN, a subject of the King of Denmark, and resident of I-Iadbjerg, near Hadsten, in the Kingdom of Denmark, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lifting Gears for Barrels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a lifting-gear for barrels and the like in which a bow-shaped frame forming a support for the barrel to be lifted may be swung upward to lift the barrel by rocking between two sets of uprights and by means of cross-bars engaging with pawls mounted in the said uprights.
WVhen the back-end of the said bowshaped frame, which is furnished with a handle, is rocked downward, a crossbar at the ifore-end is lifted upon higher positioned pawls, while a cross-bar at the backend is raised, when the handle is swung about the crossbar at the fore-end of the bow-shaped frame.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the lifting-gear in sideview, partly in section,
Fig. 2 shows the same in top-view, and
Fig. 3 shows a modification in side-view.
On a frame consisting for instance of two pieces of I-beams a and two pieces of U- beams 79, are mounted tw-o fixed uprights 0 and two uprights d, which latter can be swung about pivots 6. At the top the uprights a and d are held in position by means of a hook f, mounted on a pivot g in the uprights 0 and engaging with a projection h on the uprights d.
The uprights 0 and d can be made of U- beams and are provided with a number of pawls j and k, turnably mounted on pivots Z and m in the uprights. The pawls j and is are prevented from swinging downward by backs n and 0.
Between the four uprights a frame is mounted, which for instance consists of two arched bows p of I-beams. At the backends the bows are connected with a bar 9, carrying a handle 1", while the fore-ends, which are rounded, are connected with one another by a stay t.
In holes in the lower edges of the bows 39 two cross-bars u and 'v are inserted, the ends of which rest on the pawls j in the uprights 0 and the pawls is in the uprights d, so that the bows p are carried by the cross-bars u and o and the pawls and 70.
Each pawl is placed on a level between two opposite pawls 70.
When a barrel is to be raised the bar 7) is removed and the bow-shaped frame low ered until the bar it rests on the irons b, and the fore-ends s are resting on the irons aas shown in Fig. 1 with dotted lines. The barrel is then rolled over the ends 8 up on the bows p. During this operation the up rights 03 can be laid down in a horizontal position.
When thereupon the handle 1' is pressed down, the fore-ends of the bows p are lifted up above the lowest pawls In, so that the bar o may be inserted, whereafter the backends of the bows p and the bar a are, by means of the handle, lifted up over the lowest pawls The handle 7" is then again pressed down and the bar 2) further lifted and so on.
In this manner the barrel is lifted up slowly by means of the handle 1' that rocks the bows p about the bars at and 0, which so in passing the pawl 7' or k swing these up, whereafter the pawls fall down again. One man can lift a very large barrel, only by moving the handle up and down.
When the barrel has been sufiiciently raised, the hooks f are released, the handle 0 is lifted up, so that the bar it comes out of contact with the pawls j, and the bowshaped frame with the barrel together with the uprights 03 are swung towards the carriage or support, on which the barrel is to be placed, so that it can be rolled up upon the carriage or the support.
The bows p and pawls j and k can be otherwise shaped as shown in the drawings and the pawls may for instance be mounted in the bars u and 'v and co-act with teeth on the uprights 0 and d, so that the bows p in that way are lifted up and with them the barrel.
In the modification in Fig. 3 the lifting bow is formed as a frame w for lifting of boxes or the like. The frame to is connected with an angular frame as, serving for lifting a sack or the like, and furnished with a swingable bow y or other means for holding the sack.
By means of the handle r the cross-bars u and '0 of the frame 10 can be rocked up the pawls and 7c in the described manner. When. a ck has. e uflf c ently. r s a bar 2 is inserted between the frame a and the uprights cl, so that the frame 09 is pre vented from swinging downward,'un'til the sack can'be lifted down, or. the frame in together with the uprights d be swung about the pivots e. V
By altering the shape of the liftingframes and by varying the distance between the uprights, my lifting-gear. may-be adjusted according to all forms for goods, which are to be lifted. 7
,Having thus described my invention, I claim: t 1. In'lifting-gears, the combination of a support for geodsto be lifted,'twosets, of uprights enclosing the said support, a number of pawls turnably mounted in the said uprights, a handle firmly connected with, the back side of the said support and adapted to bero'cked up and dow1i,"and two cross-bars placed, in the said support and having ends extending over the said pawls and engaging itht m e th th PWl form layers for t S id uppor wh n e ked up a d w by means of the said handle,-substant ially as set forth. 7
c n f es-ge the ombination of a support for gojods to be li fte'oh crossbars removabiy inserted in the said support and forming pivots, and a handle for rocking the said support up andldown' about the said pivot, substantially as set forth.
3. In lifting-gears, the combination of my hand in the presence of two Witnesses.
W tness R H- L E G. V. NIELSEN.
