Be it known that I, a citizen of the United States,
l'. yLAivo, residing at CHARLES Forrest City, in the county of Saint Francis have invented certain new and useful improvements in Motorn `Vehicle Movers; and l ldo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The primary intent tion is the provision stalled motor vehicle own motive plant to or draw itself out of the present invenolf means whereby a may be moved by its clear an obstruction of the mud, sand or other place from which it cannot be moved in the ordinary way and which requires the application of great force to clear the obstruction, inud or other condition causing the vehicle to stall.
Other objects and advantages will be aparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
lVhile the drawings ment of the invention that in adapting the saine requirements,
conditions and illustrate an embodiit is to be understood to meet different various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view showing the application of the invention,
Figure 2 is an elevation of the drum, and Figure 3 is a detail plan view of the drum, parts being broken away.
Corresponding and to in the following nated in the several views like parts are referred description and desigof the drawings by like reference characters.
The device consists of a drum l of such size and formation as to lit snugly over the outer end of the of the stalled motor hub of a drive wheel vehicle to be moved.
The drum l has outer flanges at its ends to stiifen and reinforce the same and to prevent vdisplacement wound upon the device. Arms 8 r end of the drum and o f the cable 2 when the drum in the operation of adiate from the inner terminate in laterally disposed spoke-engaging hooks il. The number of arms 3 is immaterial so long as they subserve to make posi tive and firm engage- Serial No. 566,259.
CARLES E. DE LANG,
ment of the drum i with the "drive wheelof the motor vehicle. in practice with .its iianges and the of integral formation,
, the drum arms and hooks are the saine constituting part of a single casting, thereby obviating the formation of joints and resulting in the provision of a substantial7 light and eilicient device.
rShe device may be carried as an accessory of a motor vehicle and will be constructed with reference to the vdrive wheel thereof so as to sungly t the outer end of the hub and insure the hooks al registering with the spokes to event of a motor lvehicle stalling be engaged thereby. In the by encountering a soft place in a road, such as mud or sand, or dropping into a rut or depression, or meeting the usual way, it the drum l to the with an obstruction which precludes thevehicle clearing the same in may be moved by fitting hub of a. drive wheel and engaging the hooks 4 of the arms 3 with certain spokes cable 2 is attached to a stake convenient anchoring the opposite end portionof the gaged with the drum when the motor of the vehicle thereby enabling the vehicle to c of said drive wheel.
The 5, or other means, after which cable is en- 1 so as to wind thereon is started, lear the obstruction of whatever character by power derived from its motive plant. vehicle has been moved obstruction the drum may engaged from the drive wheel carried as an adjunct without any appreciable space.
After the so as to clear the be readily disand may be occupying lt is observed that the drum may be attached and disconnected from the 'drive wheel without requiring the use of any tool o r fastening means other than the hooks 4e which form a device.
part of the To prevent marring the finish of the spokes and hub of the drive wheel it is to be understood that the hooks 4; and drum l will be suitably lined with any preferred material as will be readily understood.
What is claimed is:
An attachment of the class described nia'de in a. single piece consisting of a drum, the
drum being and having its wall imperforate said drum at its outer end being hollow to house the wheel hub throughout, closed and having an outwardly extending cable-retaining flange, that portion of the cent the flange having a truly outer surface, the drum as an i drum adjacylindrical nward continualion of said cylindrical surface being flared, the inner Wall of said flange being flat and in a plane at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the. drum, the drum at the side adjacent the Wheel having a flange of greater diameter than the rst flange and having its outer surface adjacent the margin substantially flat and in a plane parallel to the said plane arms radiating from said drum at its inner end, hooks integral with said arms extending at a right angle thereto and on the opposite side to the drum, said hooks being adapted to engage Wheel spokes and all being open at the same side, the hooks being applicable to the Wheel spokes by movement circumferentially of the Wheel, in combination With a draw element to extend from the drum to a support and to maintain said hooks in engagement with the wheel spokes when in use. In testimony whereof I alix my signature in presence of two Witnesses. y
