I Be it known that I, SAMUEL H. PAGE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, re-
siding at Stratford, county of Fairfield,
State of Connecticut, have invented a new anduseful Figured Filet Lace and Method of Making the Same, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new method of making figured filet lace on the Levers lace machine, and has for an object to control the net bars from crossing the design as heretofore so that their place in the design may be filled by the every motion gimp weave forming the design, and thus the design will stand out more clearly on the net.
Referring to the drawing forming a part of this specification,
Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic view of a portion of a piece of lace made according to my invention drawn to an enlarged scale showing the working of the threads to make the weave, some of the threads being omitted for the purpose of clearness of illustration, and V Fig. 2 is a view of a finished piece of lace made according to this method.
In Fig. 1 the straight horizontal lines D represent the fine bobbin threads, the double lines- A represent the thick threads or independent threads forming the independent or transverse bars of the filet net, B are the thick threads of the flossed or every motion front gimp weave which is employed to form the figure or design, and C are the fine warp threads which are used to lock the other threads. Taking the thick thread 1, for example, it is interlooped with the two bobbin threads 3 and .4, the thick thread 1 and the warp thread 1 forming the horizontal or longitudinal bar of a net to point 10 where it is then extended vertically or transversely, in the present case over four bobbin threads. It is then looped over the bobbin thread 1 at 11 and from point 11 to point 12 is interlooped with the bobbin threads i and 2 and other threads C and B (not shown) the same as up to point 10 to form a longitudinal bar of a net. This is the same as is shown for bobbin threads 3 and P from 10 to 13, Fig. 1.
Thread 1 is then brought down or transversely to a point 13at the edgeof adesign which in the diagram extends from point 13 to 14. It will be seen that from point 13 at the beginning of the design the thick thread 1 is looped about one bobbin thread 3 only, and the design is formed with the thick thread 1 It will be noted that as the thread 1 passes through the d'eSigllit 1s controlled from crossing or] extending transversely in'the design to form a'filet net as for instance, thatshown from point 10 to 11, and therefore the weaving of the fi'let net is discontinued in the design, but is continued after the threads A leave thedesign. Also the portion designated in the specification and claims as the body of the cloth or design is the portion ofthe design or figure between the sides or outline of the design or figure. The independent threads forming the transverse bars of the;
filet net may extend transversely at the edge or in the outline of the design or figure, but they do not extend transversely in the body of the design or figure.
Having thus set forth the nature of my invention, what I claim is:
1. A new method of making figured filet lace'on the Levers lace machine in which a 2. A new method of making figured filet lace on the Levers lace machine in which a figured design of one color comprising fiossed or every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads, is worked in conjunction with a filet net of another color made by threads from independent beams, and where the formation of the filet net is discontinued in the design.

A new method of making figured lace on "the'Levers' lace machine, which consists warp threads in working a design in flossed or every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads in conjunction with a filet net made by threads from independent beams, and discontinuing the formation of the filet net through the design.

A new method of making figured lace on the Levers lace machine, which consists in working a design in fiossed or every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads in conjunction with. a filet net made by threads from independent beams, and preventing the net bars from extending transversely in the body of the design.
9. A lace comprising a filetnet of transverse and longitudinal bars, and a design made of every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads, the transverse bars of the net being discontinued in the body of the design- 10. A lace comprising a filet net of longitudinal bars and independent transverse bars, a figure or. design composed of every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads, and the threads forming the independent bars extending longitudinally only in the body of said design.
11. A lace comprising bobbin threads, independent threads, gimp threads and warp threads, the warp threads being twisted about the bobbin threads, the independent and gimp threads to form the longitudinal bars of a filet net; the independent threads being extended laterally between a plurality of bobbin threads to formthe transverse bars of the filet net, a design comprising the gimp threads thrown every motion over two or more bobbin threads, and the independent threads while in the body of the design being twisted about a single bobbin thread.

A lace comprising a filet net of transverse and longitudinal bars, and a design made of every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads, the threads forming the filet bars being of a different color from that of the gimp threads, and the transverse bars of the net being discontinued in the body of the design. r
13. A lace comprising a filet net of longitudinal bars and independent transverse bars, a figure or design composed of every motion front gimp weave thrown over two or more bobbin threads, the filet bars being of a different color than the gimpin and the threads forming the independent bars extending longitudinally only in the body of the design.
14. A lace comprising bobbin threads, independent threads, gimp threads and warp threads, the independent threads being of a different'color than the gimp threads, the
