'ALBERT MAUREB., 'or NEW remitir. 'A 1 TABLE FOR BALDI() APPARATUS.
Application med January 28, 1924. Serial No. 688,905.
To all whom. it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALBERT MAURER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables for Radio Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an article of furniture such as a table or cabinet for mounting readily therein an antenna of the loop type as used in radio reception; and it has for its object to so mount the same therein that it will not project beyond the structure during operation and that it may conveniently be rotated to various positions in selectin a station, as by a manually operable mem er extending beyond the outer edge of the top of the table portionv of the cabinet. The invention has for a further object to provide a loop support which will admit of expeditiously securing the said loop to the top of the table in manner to, be
rotatable relatively thereto. A further object of the invention consists in so constructing the improved article that a smooth table top may be presented for receiving and loud speaker apparatus, and that the loop as well as any other apparatus supported in the structure may be entirely concealed, if desired.
The nature ofthe invention, however, will best be understood when described inconfnection with the accompanying drawings,l in" Fig. 1 is a front view of the improved cabinet with loop in position, and the control shaft therefor shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2 2, Fig. 1. l
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section illus-v tlatfiig the manner of mounting the loop s a Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts thruout the several views.. v l Referring to the drawings, 10 designates l a table top of suitable dimensions and which is supported upon. uprights, preferably in former is provided with shelves 15 as "for supporting the (A) and (B) batteries and like apparatus utilized in connection with aslaforesaid,
radio receiving and loud speaking apparatus 16 which may be supported upon the upper surface of the table 10, it being desirable usually to conceal the former. In the compartment 14, the arrangement is such that a loopv antenna 17 may be completely rotated therein, and the same depends for this purpose from the table top 10. To this end, a sleeve 20 is provided thru the table top and extends slightly below the lower surface thereof as shown. Thru'this sleeve is designed to pass for rotation therein a screw, the shank 21 of which fits thru said sleeve and Whose head 22 is counter-sunk in the upper end of the sleeve and is substantially Hush with the upper surface of the table. The threaded end 23 of the screw is 'screwed into the shaft end 24 or axle of the loop and effects" thereby a rigid connection be,- tween the two. This arrangement affords a very convenient means for securing the loop to. the table, as the same may be expeditiously performed from the upper surface Vvof the table by the use of an ordinary screw driver.
' The shank`21 carries, also, a wormwheel vv25, which vit will be understood is to be secured to the shank prior to the attachment of the loop thereto and said worm wheel is designed' to mesh with a worm 26 on a worm shaft 27 extending beneath the table Suitablehangersf28*secured to the under face of the table afford bearings for-this shaft; and the same .carries at its'fouter' endv means for eecting rotation of same, for example,
Aa graduated member 29 such lasisfcommonly 'employed in connection with radio apparatus and whereby it will be possible readily to set thev loop to a selected or pre determined position. Itpwill. be understoodl` l,
moreover, that this vis effected conveniently by turning'the lmob 30 thereof in the usual manner, which rotates thereby the worm shaft and worm 26 andthru the engagement of the latter with the worm wheel 25 effects -a corresponding rotation of the loop.
y the arrangement hereinbefore described,'a connection between the shaft or axle 24 vof tl'iefloopv and theme'anssfor rotate ing sa-nie4 ,is 'karina':(efnfent-lyA provided for; fand-,i
t entirev aplaaratusl contained within the-"stru re'4 or cabinet may be concealed, for, example-'by providing suitable curtains 31v lwhich'{Irlaybe drawn thereover. .The receiving andloud vspeaking apparatus l cealed as aforesaid, setting of the said loop` 11o-ay, nevertheless be conveniently eected as- 16 will be supported in the usual manner on .the top" of the tabl`e10; and while the loop.
itself and other apparatus is wholly conby merelyturning the knob 30. I claim: 1. 'In a structure of the character devstantiallyflush lwith the upper'surface of the v' table top and counter-sunk in the said s1eeve, a loop antenna. having the end ofthe screw screwed therein to fixedly s'ec'ure the said loop to the screw, gearing operatively conlof New York and State of 24th day of January A. D. 1924.
nected with the shank of said screw, and
means to rotate Said gearing for positioning the loop.
Leaaoao 2. En a structure 4.of the 'oharaoter described: a suitably supported table-) top, a e
