uNrrE ARTHUR JAMES FRASCOLLA, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LOCKING MEANS FOR HOOD CLAMPS 0F AUTOMOBILES.
Application led April 12, 1922. Serial No. 551,798.
To au whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. FRAsooLLA, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York,`in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Locking Means for Hood Clamps of Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to locking means for hood clamps of automobiles and the principal objectJ is to provide a device of this nature which may be included in the clamp itself.
Another-.object is to producea device of this nature which is simple of construction, cheap to manufacture and highly efficient for the purpose for which it is designed.
With these and other objects in view which will be more apparent as the specification proceeds, 'the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which Figure l, is a front elevation of a portion of an automobile hood provided with my improved clamp and lock.
Fi ure 2, is a vertical sectional view of the c amp and lock, perse.
Like characters in reference referto like parts in both Views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 represents the chassis frame to which -is bolted the base plate 11. The usual clamp bolt 12 is swivelled in the plate 11, and on this is mounted the casing 13 of the hood pull. .A spring 14 tends constantlyto thrust the member 13 downwardly so that its locking finger 15 will engage the catch 16 on the hood and hold the hood in closed condition. The bar or bolt 12 is provided with a plurality of notches 17 into any one of which'ia keeper 18. on a bolt 19 is adapted to enter so as to prevent movement of the hood pull frame 13 on the bolt 12 and thus prevent disengaging the catch members 15 and 16. The bolt 19 is forced toward they member 12 by a spring 2O or other suitable means, and may be retracted by means of a key inserted through `the a erture 2]. and contacting when turned wit the shoulder 22 so as to move the bolt 19 against the infinance of the epm 20.
with said housing and Any desired type of lock may be used to operate the lock bolt 18,'the principal idea being that the same shall be -housed within the hood pull 13 and that the lock bolt 18 shall be engageable with any one of a plurality of notches on the member 12. L
1While I have herein fully shown and dei als used'. and of their operation, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of. a bolt formed with a plurality ot notches in its longitudinal face, means for pivotally securing said bolt to the chassis of an automobile, a housing movably mounted on l.said'bolt, and means for locking said housing in any one of a plurality of positions on said bolt.
2. In a device ot the class described, the combination of a bolt, means Jfor pivotally securing said bolt tothe chasis of a vehicle, a housing movabl;7 mounted on said bolt, automatic means for moving said housing in one direction, a catch on said housing for locking the hood of an automobile, and a lock in said housing for holding said housing in any one of a plurality of positions on said bolt.
3. A hood retaining device forautomobiles' comprising a bolt ada ted to be swivelly mounted upon the c assis frame, a
housing slidably mounted on said bolt., means on said bolt, means 1n said housing for co-actlon wlth means on said bolt for 'locking said housing in any one 'of a plurality of positions thereon, automatic means for moving said.housing in one direction, a catch secured to the hood of an automobile and 'a manipulatin portion vmovable,
ormed with a finger for locking engagement with vsaid catch.y In testimony whereof I/have affixed my signature. 7 4
