Be it known that I, BEN E. BOND, citizen of the United States, residin at De Noya, in the county of Osageand tate of Oklahoma, have mvented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments ,for Gasoline Tanks, of which the following is a specification. a
This invention relates to attachments for gasoline tanks, and has particular reference to a device particularly adapted for attachment to the gas dome of tanks of tank cars in which gasoline under pressure is transported or shipped, and by means of which loading and unloadin of the tank may be accomplished with acility and without danger from escapin vapors.
Another object of t e invention is to provide such an attachment for gas domes of gasoline tanks wherein the means for facilitating loading or unloadingof the gasoline further serves for sampling .the gasoline, de-
terming the depthof the same within the tank and the like without necessitatingremoval of the dome cover.
Other objects will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, and the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinaftermore fully described, shown 'in the accompanying drawing and claimed. 7
In the drawing, the view is a fragmentary view of adome with my attachment applied thereto, the attachment being shown partly in section and partly in elevation.
It is well known that it is highly desir able-to provide means for gauging the depth escape of vapors from the tank to a noticeable extent.
Referring to the drawing in detail, my
improved attachment for carrying out the tank of a tank car or the like, in which gasoline is stored under pressure. The body 5 has a central opening, and is externally threaded upon its upper end for threaded reception 0 a packing nut 8 between which and the upper end of the body 5 is disposed a suitable packing as shown in the drawings. Slidably disposed through a central opening in the cap or nut 8, and through the bore of the body 5., is a 9, the outer surface of which is engage by 76 ipe the packing within the packin gland for preventing escape of vapors t erearound, when the nut or cap 8 is tightened. It is still further desirable to determine the amount of water in the tank with the gasoline, and to determine the same without allowing the vapors to escape. It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a simple and practical attachment for the gas domes of gasoline tanks, wherein gasoline is stored under pressure, by means of which these facts may be ascertained in a very expeditious manner and without permitting the depth of the water in the tank may be determined. In this way, the fact that .an
excessive amountof water is within the ,tank' may be readily noted, so that such water may be withdrawn from the bottom of the tank in a well known manner for I vious that the gasoline may be readily forced out of the tank through the pipe 9, by placing the gasoline under. pressure and forcing the same outwardly to said pipe. From the above description, it is believed that the construction and operation,
as well as the advantages of the invention 'will be readil understood and appreciated by those skil ed in the art.
What I claim as new is:
An attachment of the class described comprising a hollow threaded plug adapted to be ta ped into the usual threaded filler neck 0 the dome of a gasoline tank,
