CONNECTER FOR ELECTRIC GABLES.
Application filed March 14, 1922. Serial No. 543,673.
. in driving tools; for instance, such tools as tie tampers illustrated in my Patent #1329349, dated Jan. 27, 1-920, and another use is where considerable lengths of cable are dragged about, as in mine machinery and tools and the like.
Second, to provide an improved connecter for cables which provides a very secure connection and one which minimizes the strain upon the cables and their conducting wires.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly .defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:

In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring tothe drawing, 1 represents a conductor cable, the cable shown being provided with three of the wires 2 as it is lntended for use with a three phase motor. My improved connecters comprise a pair of members 3 and-Lhaving opposed channels 5 for the cable and opposed channels 6 for the connecter terminal members 7 and 8.- These are of the plug andsocket type, being the same except that one is a plug and the other a socket to receive the plug. These terminal members are provided with, sockets 9 at their inner ends internally threaded to receive the clamping screws 10, I
the wires 2 being arranged through the bores 11 of the clamping screws and spread out so that they are clamped in the bottom of the sockets by means of the screws. heads of the screws are non-circular so that they may be turned down by means of a wrench securely clamping the wires. Tubular insulators 12 are provided for the terminals 7 and 8, these terminals being of soft or resilient rubber. The conductor cable 1 is also provided with a tubular casing 13 of resilient rubber.

The connecter members have internal lugs by the insulator 12 thereby also providing a further binding means between the parts. The latch or connecting link 17 is pivoted to one connecter at 18 and is provided with a hook 19 adapted to engage the transverse bolt 20. The connecters are thus effectively secured together and at the same time may be readily disengaged. The strain upon the cable is minimized by this connection and at the same time it is securely clamped so that the wires are not likely to be pulled from the terminals. I
The terminals are supported s9 as to yield somewhat by means of the resilient insulators so that the connecters may be dragged along on the ground or over railway ties or the like without liability of injury thereto and the insulators are not cracked or broken by such usage as would be the case if they were of hard material.

I thus provide a branched connecter which has the advantage of securing the cable with a minimum of strain upon the wires thereof and also the other advantages, as stated, of the single line or conducting cable connecters. Other variations and adaptations will no doubt suggest themmy invention relates.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. The combination with a conductor cable, of a pair of Y connecter members provided with clamping bolts and having a plurality of opposed longitudinal internal channels in the body portionthereof and opposed continuous channels in the arms thereof, a portion of said cable intermediate its ends being clamped in said arms, such portion being provided with a tubular casing of resilient material. connecter terminal members having threaded sockets at their inner ends, connecting wires for the wires of said conductor cable to said terminal members, clamping screws for said connecting wires, the ends of such wires being arranged through the screws and clamped in the bottoms of said terminal sockets. said screws being provided with proiecting heads, and tubular insulators ,of resilient material for said terminal members embracing the heads of said clamping screws. said insulators bein clamped in said channels.

The comb nation with a conductor cable, of a pair of Y-connecter members provided with clamping bolts and having a plurality of opposed longitudinal internal channels in the body portion thereof and opposed continuous channels in the arms thereof, a portion of said cable intermediate its ends being clamped in said arms, such portion being provided with a tubular casing of re silient material, the'ends of which project substantially beyond the ends of the arms, connecter terminal members, connecting wires for the wires of said conductor cable to said terminal members, and tubular insulators of resilient material for said terminal members, said insulators being clamped in said channels with their outer ends projecting from the connecter members, said connecter members having internal lugs engaging said insulators.

The combination with a conductor cable; of a connecter comprising a pair of opposed Y-shaped members provided with clamping 53 bolts and having-opposed longitudinal internal channels in the arm portions thereof and a plurality of opposed longitudinal channels in the body portions thereof, a portion of said cable intermediate its ends being disposed inthe said channels of said arms, connecter terminal members connected to the wires of said conductor cable. and insulators for said terminal members disposed in said channels in said body portions of said .con- 5 necter. v
5. The combination with a conductor cable. of a connecter'comprising a pair of opposed Y-shaped'members, a portion of said cable intermediate its e'nds being clamped between the arms of said connecter] members, the portion s0 clamped being provided with a tubular casing of resilient material, connecter terminal members connected to the wires of said conductor cable, and tubular insulators of resilient material for said terminal members clamped between the body portions of said connecter members. i
6. The combination with a conductor cable,
of a connecter comprising a pair of-opposed Y-shaped members. a portion of said cable intermediate its ends being clamped between the arms of said connecter members. connecter terminal members connected to the wires of said conductor cable. and insulators for said terminal members clamped between the bodv portions of said connecter members.
7 The combination with a conductor cable. of a connecter comprising a pair of opposed Y -shaped members. a portion of said cable intermediate its ends being'elamped between the arms of said connecter members, and connecter terminal members connected to the wires of said conductor cable.'

The combination with the conductor cables of a pair of connectors each comprising a pair of members having opposed cable channels and opposed connecter terminal channels therein, connecter terminal members, tubular insulators of resilient material 130 sleeved upon said terminal members, tubular casings of resilient material on said conductor, and cables disposed in said conductor cable channels of said. members, said connecter members being provided with inwardly projecting lugs engaging said resilient insulators and cable casings when the connecter members are clamped thereon. 9. The combination with the-conductor cables of a pair of comiecters each comprising a pair of members having opposed cable channels and opposed connecter terminal channels therein, connecter terminal members, tubular insulators of resilient material sleeved upon said terminal members, and tubular casingsof resilient material on said conductor cables disposed in said conductor cable channels'of said members.
10. The combination with a a conductor cable provided with a tubular casing of resilient material, connecter terminal members, tubularlnsulators therefor of resllient material, and a pair of connecter membersprovided with opposed channels for. said conductor cable and terminal members, clamped thereon.

An electricalconductor connecter comprising a pair of members havin a plurality of opposed longitudinal channe s, connecter v terminal members havingthreaded sockets at their inner ends, conducting wires, clamping screws having longitudinal holes therein through which said wires are arranged so that the ends of the wires are clamped by the screws in the bottoms of said terminal sockets, said screws being provided with projecting heads, and tubular insulators of resilient material sleeved over said terminal members and embracin the heads of said screws, said insulators ing disposed in said channels.
12. An electrical conductor connecter comprising a pair of members havin a plurality of opposed longitudinal channe s, connecter terminal members having threaded sockets at their inner ends, conducting wires, clamping screws having longitudinal holes therein through which said wires are arranged so that the ends of the wires are clamped by the screws in the bottoms of said terminal sockets, said screws being provided with projecting heads, and tubular insulators of resilient material sleeved over said terminal members, said insulators being disposed in said channels.
