Another important object of the invention is to provide a plow of the above mentioned character, wherein provision is made for the interchanging of sweep blades of different sizes, means being associated with the sweep blade attaching member for securely holding the saine in position on the standard of the plow while the same is in use.
A still further object of the invention Ais to provide a plow of the above mentioned character, wherein the forward end of the plow beam yis adapted to support thereon the usual clevis in various-adjusted positions.v
A further object of the invention is to provide a plowy of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and further,
well adapted for the purposes for whichV it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the coursevof the following description.

kln the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, thenumerall designates the plow beam which is of the usual construction and is provided at its rear end with a downwardly curved portion 2 in the manner as clearly shown in Figure l of the drawings. i
Extending rearwardly from the mediate portion of the plow beam the usual diverging handles 3 and spectively. The forward ends of these handles are connected to the plow beam l by any suitable fastening means such as l are is shown at 5, and a suitable brace 6 extends interv transversely between the intermediate portions of the handles. Suitable braces such are shown at 7 and 8, respectively, in the drawings, are secured at their lower ends to the sides of the plow beam l at the curved portion 2 thereof, and are adapted to be connected at their upperends to the handles 3 and 4, respectively, in the manner as clearly shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, Adapted to be adjustably supported on the upper curved portion of the rear end of the plowbeam l, is the standard 9 and the latter includes the spaced arms 10 and l1, respectively, the upper ends of which are connected and which straddles the plow beam and is supported in adjusted the standard and has a suitable nut threaded thereon; However, this construction has been found unsatisfactory'in so far as the 1 sweep blade is not supported in position on the standard so as to insure the same against any relativefmovement while in use.
To prevent the relative movement of the sweep biade 13 on the plow standard@ the present invention, I have provided a means which will securely hold the sweep blade in a fixed positionon the standard, yet be of such construction as to enable the interchangeability of various sizes of sweep blades on the standard in order to meet the desired uses of the same.
rEhe attaching means for securing the sweep blade 13 in posi-tion on the standard- 9 comprises the fastening member 14 which is adapted to extend through a suitable opening provided in the upper portion of the sweep blade 13 and is further adapted to extend through the lower portion of the standard 9 between the arms 1() and 11 thereof, in the manner as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 5 of the drawings. The head portion 15 of the fastening element 14 will engage the outer face of the opstanding portion of the sweep blade 13, and the rearwardly extending portion of the fastening member 14 is provided with suitable notches 16 and 1 7 formed in the upper and bottom faces thereof. The fastening member 14 is further substantially rectangular in cross section so as to prevent the saine from rotating between the arms 10 and 11 of the standard 9.
,Co-.operating with the notched end of the fastening member 14 is the elongated strip which. is preferably formed of spring steel and is .designated by the numeral 18. The lower end .of the spring steel strip 18 is curved outwardly as illustrated at 19 in the drawing to provide a bearing surface or fulcriim part for the purposes hereinafter to be more fully described, and the extreme `lower end 20 of the flexible strip 18' is adapted to engage the notch 16 formed in the upper face of the rearwardly extending portion of the fastening member 14 in a manner as clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and 5 of the drawings.
The intermediate portion of the flexible strip 18 is off-set as shown at 21 in the drawings particularly Figure 3 so as to extend adjacent the side of the curvedA portion 2 of the plow beam 1, the upper portion of the strip extends upwardly between the diverging handles 3 and 4 so as to have the extreme upper end of the strip within easy reach of the person operating the plow. The off-set portion 21 of the flexible strip 18 has provided therein an elongated slot- 22 for the purpose of receiving the free end of the lever 23 which is pivotally supported at its inner end on the bolt 24 which also provides a means for fastening the lower ends of the braces 7 and 8.
The lever Q3 has a series of ratchet teeth formed in the. lower longitudinal edge thereof in a manner as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, and the purpose thereof is" to provide a means for engagement with the lower portion of the slot 22 formed in the off-set portion 21 of the flexible strip 18. The ratchet teeth on the lever 23 further provides a means for lsupporting the flexible strip 18 in the proper exed position on the plow so that the lower end 2O of the. flexible strip will be in engagement with the notch 16 formed in the rearwardly extending portion of the fastening. ,I nembel;l 1.4, the latter supporting at its yenter end the sweep blade 13.. When it is desired to remove the sweep blade 13 from the lower end of the stand'- ard and substitute therefor., Swee., blade of a different size, the upper sind of f o' .flexblo `strip .1.8 is moved' forwardly so as to cause .the ratchet teeth 25 of the lover 23 te be disengaged from the lower portion of the slot 22 'and by again aotuatingthe upper portion of the spring 18 in ai backward and downward move-ment, the same will be caused to be disengaged -entirely from the lever 2 3 so as to permit the lower end 2O of the strip to be disengaged from the notched portion of the fastening` member land the fastening member may then be removed from between the arms lof the stand ard whereby the sweep 13 will. be moved from the lower portion of the standard and the fastening member may then be nal-ly withdrawn from the opening provided in the upper portion of the sweep blade.
Vhen a new sweep blade is to be supported on the plow standard 9, the fastening member 14 is first placed through the opening provided in the upper portion of the sweep blade so that the head 15 will engage the outer face thereof, the shank of the fastening member will then 'be caused to pass through the lower portion of the standard' between the arms 10- and 11, thereof. The flexible strip 18 is then placed in position so that the curved portion 19 of the lower portion thereof will engage the rear edges of the arms of the standard and the extreme lowerl end will engage the notch formed in the upper face of the fastening member. The spring member then adapted.' to be placed over the outerfree endl of the lever 23 and by moving the saine for wardly at its upper endthe proper flexing of the strip will be obtained so as to cause the lower end ofthe flexible strip to exert an inward movement on thefastening member wherebyV the sweep blade carried there by will be brought up againstA the front faces of the armsof the standards. rlhe ratchet teeth 25 will then .engage thelower portion of the slot and hold the den'ible blade in its proper adjusted position whereby the sweep blade will be supported on the standard against accidental movement thereon in any direction.
Extending between the extreme lower end of the curved arm 2 of the plow beam l and the lower ends of the arms of the standard 9 is the; usual wear plate 26 and the same is supported by means of the bolt 27 which extends through the upstanding portion 28 thereof, the bolt 27 further extending through the securing bracket 29 which has its respective ends secured to the plow beam and standard in the well known manner. By securing the wear plate 26 in the manner as above described, there will be no possibility of the bolt 27 becoming worn as is the case with the bolts now used for attaching the heel or wear plate now in use, upon a plow, for the reason that the bolt is adapted to extend through a portion extending upwardly from the side of thev wear plate.
Adapted to be supported on the forward end of the plow beam l in an adjustable manner, is the adjustable clevis 30. The purpose of this construction is to provide a means whereby the draft animals hitched thereto may operate the plow at an angle with respect to the plow beam, the construction being such as to enable the clevis to be adjusted in any direction It will thus be seen from the foregoing description, that a plow has been provided wherein the same is adapted to support the sweep blade on the standard thereof in a substantially rigid position against accidental movement, and being further of such construction as to permit the interchanging of sweep blades of various sizes, as may be found necessary. Furthermore, the simplicity in which my device is constructed, enables the same to be easily and quickly actuated for removing the sweep blade therefrom or for mounting a sweep blade thereon. ln this manner it is not necessary to use Wrenches or the like vin order to adjust the several parts as has heretofore been necessary in the removal of various parts of the plow.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim is l. A plow comprising a beam, a standard adjustably supported on the rear end thereof, a sweep blade, a fastening member ex tending through the sweep blade and through the lower portion of said standard,
an elongated flexible strip of metal having its lower end in engagement with the inner end of said fastening member for holding the sweep blade in position on said standard, and a lever pivotally mounted at one end on said plow beam and adapted to extend through an opening provided in the adjacent portion ofsaid flexible strip, said lever having teeth formed on one of its edges for co-operation with the opening formed in the flexible strip for supporting the same on said plow beam.

A plow comprising` a beam, a standard adjustably supported on the rear portion thereof, a sweep blade, a fastening member supported in the upper portion of said sweep blade and adapted to extend through the lower portion of said standard, said fastening member having a notch formed adjacent the inner end thereof, a flexible strip of metal having its lower portion curved to engage the rear portion of said standard, the lower end of said flexible strip being adapted to engage the notch of said fastening member whereby said sweep blade is supported on the standard against acci-v dental displacement therefrom, and means for supporting the flexible strip in adjusted position on said plow.
3. A plow comprising a beam, a standard adjustably supported on the rear portion thereof, a sweep blade, a fastening member supported in the upper portion of said sweep blade and adapted to extend through the lower portion of said standard, said fastening member having a notch formed adjacent the inner end thereof, a flexible strip of metal having its lower portion curved 'to engage the rear portion of said standard, the lower end of said flexible strip being adapted to engage the notch of said fasten- -ing member whereby said sweep blade is supported on the standard against accidental displacement therefrom, means for supporting the flexible strip in adjusted position on said plow, said means comprising a lever pivotally supported at its inner end on the plow beam, the outer end of the lever adapted to extend through an elongated slot provided in the adjacent portion ofvsaid -flexible strip, and teeth formed on the lower edge of said lever and adapted. to engage the lower portion of said slot for holding the flexible strip in adjusted positions on a plow.
