Description

H. A. BREMER ELECTRIC CONDENSER Filed Sept. 21, 1925 Patented Dec. 23, 1924.
UNITED STATES HARRY A. BREMER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. I
ELECTRIC CONDENSER.
Application filed September 21, 1923. Serial No. 664,001.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HARRY A. BREMER, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Electric Condensers,
of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description. A Mydnvention relates to electric condensers 1 employing plates arranged in groups or sides, the plates of one condenser side being interleaved with the plates of the complemental condenser side.
Hitherto the plates were arranged upon metallic posts with adjacent plates spaced apart. by washers upon the posts, the washers and posts serving to electrically connect the plates as well as to mechanically assemble them in proper relation.
It is the general object of my invention to reduce the number of parts required to effect the mechanical and electrical assembly of the condenser plates. In carrying outmy invention, the condenser plates are arranged in pairs, at least one condenser plate of each pair having an offset rim portion placed against a rim portion of a compleinental plate. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, both plates of each pair are provided with olfset rim portions and are symmetrically arranged with their rim portions together. A post orposts pass through the rim portions and are surrounded by washers which serve to space adjacent pairs of plates apart by distances equal to the space between the plates of each pair. Both sides of a condenser include pairs of plates thus assembled and related, there be ing a number of posts passing through-the rim portions of the plates of one .if it is stationary, and a single rotatably mounted post that is similarly assembled with thecomplemental condenser side, if it be ad-- justable.
plained by reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a'condenser as it is preferably constructed in accordance with my invention, a mounting board being shown in section; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the condenser; Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view; and Figs. 4 and 5 are perspective views, respectively, of one of the condenser plates composing the adjustable condenser The invention will be more fully exside and of one of the condenser plates composing the stationary condenser side.
Like parts are indicated by similar characters of reference throughout the different figures.
The condenser shown includes a framework composed of two boards or plates 1, 2, of insulation and three metallic posts 3, 4,
5, assembled with these boards to maintain cesses 8 in its corners, the aforesaid posts being passed through these recesses. Each plate is preferably of dish formation, said recesses being formed in the rims of the plates that are offset from the semicircular body portions of the plates. The plates are arrangedin pairs with the plates of each pair symmetrically arranged with their rims together, whereby the body portions of the plates of each pair are spaced a suitable distance apart without the aid of any spacing washer. Washers 9 surround the posts 3, 4, 5, and are interposed between adjacent pairs of lates to maintain them apart a suitable distance that is equal to the space between the plates of each pair. Other washers 10 also surround said posts and are interposed between the stationary condenser, and the frame sides 1 and 2. Nuts 11 serve to clamp the lates 7 washers 9 and 10 and the posts in rm assembly.
The adjustable side of the condenser is composed of semicircular plates 12 interleaved with the plates 7. Each plate 12 has a rim portion 13 in the form of an ear projecting therefrom, each rim portion 13 having a hole 14 formed therethrough through which the post 15.is passed. The. plates 12 are arranged in pairs, the rim portions 13 of the plates of each pair being offset from the bodies of these plates and arranged sym-,
metrically to be in contact with each other and to afford the desired spacing between such lates. Washers 16 surround the post 15 an are interposed between adjacent pairs of plates to maintain them apart a suitable distance that is equal to the space between the plates of each pair. The plates 7 have semi-circular recesses 7 that accommodate the post 15 and parts thereon. This post is mounted to turn to make the capacity of one of which has an offset rim portion pair, and means for holding the rims of each the condenser regulable. For this purpose there is a knob or handle 17 upon the outer end of this 0st and this knob carries a flange 18 WhlOh is provided with suitable scale divisions upon its periphery.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following 1. An electric condenser includin a sta-, tionary side and an adjustable side, the
stationary side containing plurality of pairs of dished plates with the plates of each symp metrically arran ed with their rims together, posts passing through the plate rims, and spacing Washers surrounding the posts and interposed between the pairs of p ates to space them apart.
2. An electric condenser including a stationary side and an adjustable side, the stationary side "containin a plurality of pairs of plates with one p ate of each pair having an offset rim portlon placed against a rim portion of the other plate of such palr, posts passing through the plate rims, and spacing washers surrounding said posts and interposed between the pairs of plates to space them apart.
3. An electric condenser includin a stationary side and an adjustable side, the stationary side containing a pair of dlshed plates with their rim portlons together, posts passing throu h the plate rims, and means for holding t e rims to ether.
4. An electric condenser inc udin a stationary side and an adjustable slde, the stationary side containing a pair of plates ortion of the other olding the rims toplaced against a rim plate, and means for gether.
5. An electric condenser including a stationary side and an adjustable side, the stationary side containing a lurality of pairs of dished plates with t e plates of each pair symmetrically arranged with their rims together, and means for holding the rims of each pair of lates together.
6. An electric con enser including a stationary side and an adjustable side," the stationary side containing a plurality of pairs of plates with one plate of each air aving an offset rim portion placed agamst a rim portion of the other plate of such pair of plates together.
7. kn electric condenser including a staportions to space the pairs of tionary side and an adjustable side, the stationary side containing a pair of dished plates with their rim portions together, and means for holding said plate rims together.
8. An electric condenser including a stationary side and an adjustable side, the stationary side containing a pair of plates, one of which has an oifset rim portion placed a ainst a rim portion of the other plate, and means for holding said plate rims together.
9. An electric condenser having a side including a plurality of pairs of plates each having ofi'set rim portions which are placed together to space the plates of each air apart, a post passing through said 0 set rim ortions, and a spacing washer surrounding the post and interposed between adjacent pairs of plates at their offset rim plates a art. 10. An electric condenser having a si e including a plurality of airs of plates with one plate of each pair aving an offset rim portion placed a inst a rim portion of the other plate of suc pair to space these plates apart, a. post passing throu h the plate rim portions, and a spacmg was er surrounding said posts and interposed between the pairs of plates to space them apart.
11. An electric condenser havin a side containing a pair of dished plates with their rim portions together, a post passing throu h said rim portions, and washers surrounding said posts and holding said rim portions to ether.
12. An e ectric condenser havin a side containing a pair of dished plates with their rim portions together, and means for holding-said rim portions together.
13. An electric condenser having a side containing a pair of plates one of which has an offset rim portion placed against a rim portion ofthe other plate, a post passing through said rim portions, and washers surrounding said posts and holding said rim portions together.
14. An electric condenser havin a side containing a pair of plates one of w 'ch has an ofi'set rim portion placed a ainst a rim 1portion of the other plate, an means for olding said rim portions together.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 19th day of September, A. D.,
HARRY A. BREMER.
