CORE-MOLDING MACHINE.
Application filed September 14, 1922 Serial No. 588,273.-
and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Core- Molding Machines, of which the following is a specification.
" This invention relates to improvements in core molding machines, more especially of what may be termed the bench-type or such as aremanually actuated upon a com.-,
mon wood bench.
The invention has for its principal object to greatly simplify construction, lessen the number of parts required to effect the given end sought and to expedite and facilitate operation.
Further objects are to provide for the effective removal of the loose-adhering sand from the core-box; to deliver an initial vibratory-motion to the core-box for such loose sand removal, by means of foot-pedal movement, and an air-pressure valve simultaneously actuated by the pedal movement, and whereby an initial loosening or releasing movement is imparted to the core-box; also to provide for the removal of the core-box wholly from the core after thus being inithe proper positioning of the core-box with respect to the raising. and lowering brackets or arms of the supporting uprights or standards.
Other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description thereof and the accompanying illustration or drawing.
The invention therefore consists of certain instrumentalities and features of construction substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and defined by the appended claims.
The drawings disclose the preferred embodiment or one form of my invention wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications as relate to the detailed construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention as covered by the claims and in which drawings:

showing more fully the pedal movement or arrangement and the. air-pressure valve for imparting a vibratory movement to the core-box for removal of "adhering sand therefrom and wholly removing it from the core.

As characteristic features of my invention, I provide a suitable pivoted core-box. 1, preferably of general rectangular or oblong outline, and which'is of a type adapted preferably for use upon What may be known as the common wooden core-box bench 2 and arranged to provide for the turning of the core-box down thereupon with the core covering plate, again referred to later, occupying a position under the core-box. Said core-box may be adapted to suit varying conditions and quickly changed structurally as required, and the core-box covering plate be retained in position against displacement, as presently made apparent, as in changing its posit-ion in use. Also, it. is noted that various means may be provided for effecting connection between the core-box and the uprights, later described, in lieu of that shown and specifically described. The core-box 1 is suitably pivoted or hinged, asat 3, to the carrying or supporting uprights 4 suitably inserted and retained preferably in tubular sleeve-like members or guides secured to, and projecting from the bench 2, to provide for the upward and lateral movement of the c0rebox from over the core and downwardly to rest upon the bench 2. This movement of parts is effected preferably by suitably actuated hand-hold-equipped clamps or latches 7 having fulcruming link connections 7 upon frame-wor-r 8 upon the corebox, said clamps engaging the core-box plate or closure 8 as seen particularly in Fig. 2, the latter, when removed from the core-box, assuming the dotted line position as indicated in Fig. 3, it then lying fiat upon the bench 2, out of the way of suitably supplying sand to the core-box in forming the core, as well understood.
Suitably pivoted or fulcrumed upon a aft or rod 9 upp ted upo arms 9 projecting from the bench-legs, is a pedalarrangement 10, whose fulcrum is adapted to be suitably lubricated, as shown, and which pedal-arrangement has pivoted thereon a foot lever 11, one end of which is adapted to actuate the air-pressure valve 12, supplied with air-pressure from a source of supply by means of pipe 13, or otherwise, having suitable connection with said valve and supply-source. The pipe 13 or other suitable means serves as a means of communicating air pressure from said source of sup-ply to any suitable or convenient form of vibrator 19. It will be appreciated,
of course, that the closing or shutting 01f the flow of air-pressure is automatically effected as the operators foot is removed from the foot-lever by the corresponding or automatic action of the valve. Also, it is to be noted that the delivery of airpressure fro-1n the air-pressure-valve for delivering air-pressure to the corebox takes place simultaneously with the actuation of the pedal, the heel of the foot of the operator being first brought into contact with the foot lever of the pedal. Also, it is observed that, upon delivery of air-pressure from the air valve to the core-box the latter will be jarred or agitated to free the same, as the core-box is being raised or removed from over the core, of adhering sand and thus prevent it from falling upon the movable parts or otherwise interfering with the proper working of the machine.
The core-box carrying uprights or standards 4 are provided With outwardly horizontally extending brackets or arms 4 equipped with suitable means, as adjusting screws 5*, to provide for so adjusting the core box when in a horizontal position so that the core-box will be adapted to be positioned under the core-plates, for maintaining the same in relatively true rightangle lines with respect to the supporting uprights or standards. It will also be observed that suitable means or expedients, as for instance, cotter pins 14, or the like, are suitably applied to the upper ends of the core supporting brackets to prevent the core-plates from displacement in using the machine.
It is obvious that in lieu of the means for applying air pressure, an electric vibrator or other means for obtaining motor force may be used.
I claim:
1. In a divice of the type described, the combination of a pivoted core box and a core box closure plate adapted to move in relatively right angled lines, and hand-hold equipped clamps connected to said core box.
2. In a device of the type described, the combination of a pivoted core box, a core box closure plate therefor, links pivoted to said core box, and clamps carried by said links and adapted to engage said core box closure plate.
3. In a device of the type described the combination. of a core box, a frame supporting sia-id core box, uprights slidable in said frame, said core box being pivotally associated with said uprights, and a pedal appliance pivotally associated with said frame and with said uprights and adapted to move the latter, and an air pressure valve associated with said pedal appliance and adapted to be actuated therewith, and means adapted to communicate air pressure from said valve to said core box.
l. In a device of the type described, a frame, uprights slidable in said frame, a core box pivotally associated with said uprights, a pedal appliance for actuating said uprights and means associated with said pedal appliance for controlling air pressure delivered to said core box.
