KOMACKI FOOTPLATE LIGHT Filed Feb. 7, 1924 Figs. 1, 2 and 3 illustrate the illuminator casing 8 as being constructed separably from and subsequently secured to the base plate 6, and if desired the casing 80 may be formed integral With the base plate 81 as illustrated in Fig. 4:. In this case, also, the front Wall 83 of the illuminator is inclined at an obtuse angle with respect to the plane of the base plate 81 for causing blows strilc ing the same to be glanced off, the advantage of which has been fully pointed out.
The invention forming the subject matter of this application is. especially designed to illuminate the base plate and to provide a means to warn vehicles approaching from the side of the presence of the vehicle equipped with the light. Therefore, the illuminator .serves a dual purpose.
It is lZQ be understood that the several forms of the invention herewith shown and described are to be taken merely as preferred examples of the same and that such minor changes in the arrangement and con struction of parts may be made as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. An article of the class described com prising a base plate adapted to be arranged upon the running board of a motor vehicle, an illuminator casing secured to the inner portion of the base plate and having triangular end; walls and a front wall arranged at an obtuse angle to the plane ofthe base plate whereby blows striking the front wall are glanced off, said front wall being providedjwith a lens, a pair of ribs carried by the front wall and arranged within the easing, a socket carried by one of the ribs, and a source of light connected to the socket.

5. r A vehicle attachment comprising a foot plate adapted to be extended transversely of a motor vehicle, a casing formed separably from, the foot plate and extended transversely of one; end portion of the same and having triangular end walls, said triangular end walls being provided with inwardly projecting ears for the reception of fastening devices for securing the casing to the foot plate, said casing also being provided with a front wall inclined away from the foot plate and being connected to said triangular end walls, said front wall being provided with an opening, upper and lower ribs of segmental formation secured to the front wall, a bulb having connection with one of said ribs, and a cover plate secured to the rear edges of said ribs.
