Be it known that I, PERCY Parrainer-zn, a subject of the King of England, residing at Eastcote, St. Agnes Road, Moseley, Birmingham7 England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foundry Molding Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprises certain improvements in foundry molding machines; and it has for its object an improved method of hand ramming and improved mould removing mechanism.
By the present improvements the sand is rammed or tampered in the molding box by an improved method which comprises a pivoted plate which is raised and lowered so that repeated blows may be given for pressing the sand in the molding box. By the present improvements also molding box removing mechanism is provided which comprises a tubular sliding member mounted in a bearing carried by the frame work, such tubular member carrying adjustable pins at its upper end for engaging the molding box. The tubular sliding member is conveniently raised and lowered by means of a cranked arm and a connecting link.

According to a convenient embodiment of this invention the machine comprises a frame work 1, the top of which is adapted to receive the pattern plate. Brackets 2 are bolted to this frame-work and pivotally carry the arm 3 having the tampering plate 4 formed therewith. These brackets 2, 2 are adjustable in height to provide for varying heights of moulds. The arm 3 is adapted to be pivoted up and down by hand in order that repeated blows may be given to the sand in the molding box in order to press the same therein. The tampering plate 4i may be pivoted to the arm 3 and normally pressed outwardly as shewn by Figure 5 so that the plate will approach the mould in a vertical direction and so that an even pressure will be applied to the full area of the mould. ing of this arm and to adjustably regulate the force of the blow a spring 5 may be used to counter-balance the weight of the arm 3, such spring being conveniently fixed at one end to the tail lugs 6 and to the adjustable bolt 7 carried by the machine frame. The end of the spring may, l'ioweifer, be connected to the projection 2i, carried by the brackets 2 so that when the brackets are adjusted on the frame-work the tension of the spring will not be altered.
The molding boi.: is raised from the pat-- tern plate by means of the vertically sliding tubular member 8 mounted in the bearing 9 carried by the frame-work 1. The member 8 is raised and lowered by means of the cranked hand operated lever 10 which is pivotally mounted to the frame 1 and has fixed thereto the arm 11, this arm 11 being connected to the tubular member 8 by means of the link 12. 1When the arm is pulled over into the position shown by Figures 1 and 2 the molding box is raised from the pattern and is held in the raised position, according to one form, by means of the catch 13. This catch 13 comprises an angle member bolted to the frame 1, the horizontal flange having an inclined face 14 for forcing the arm 10 outwards when being pulled over to thereby automatically engage in the groove 15 and thus hold the molding box in the raised position. The top of the member 8 carries two cross members 16 and 17 and four arms thus formed have slots therein for adjustably receiving the pins 18. These pins 18 pass through the openings 19 in the top of the machine bed. By adjusting the position of these pins 18 varying sized molding boxes can be engaged thereby. A wood or other plate may be fixed to the plate l to provide for wider moulds.
Claims:
1. A foundry molding machine comprising a frame, a molding table or pattern plate support, and a pivotally mounted tamping plate which is raised and lowered about its pivot axis so that repeated blows may be given for pressing the sand around the pattern stationarily located in the molding boX.
2. A foundry molding machine, comprising a frame, a molding table or pattern plate support, a bracket adjustably mounted on the frame, and a tamping plate pivotally mounted on said bracket so that the tamping plate may be raised and lowered about its pivot axis to give repeated blows for pressing the sand around the pattern sta tionarily contained in the molding box.
3. A foundry molding machine comprising a frame, a molding table or pattern plate support, a pivotally mounted tamping plate which is adapted to be pivoted up and down for giving repeated blows to press the sand in the molding box around a pattern stationarily contained in the molding box, and a spring connected to the tamping plate for normally urging the tamping plate into the raised position.

A foundry molding machine compris ing a i'rame, a molding table or pattern plate support, a tamping plate pivctally mounted to one side of the frame so that it can be raised and lowered about its pivot axis to give repeated blows for pressing the sand around. a pattern stationarily located in the molding box and so that such tamping plate lies to one side or' the molding table or pattern plate support when in a raised position, and means for raising the molding box above said iframe and. from the pattern plate comprising a slidably mounted tubular member carrying arms which are adapted to bear on the molding box, and a tubular' bearing carried by said frame.
