loe it known that I., JOHN J. MCINTYRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los iliigeles. in the county of Los Angeles and vdtate of (alifornia. have invented new and useful improvements in a Hinge, of which the following is a specication.
My invent-ion relates to hinges and consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
My object is to make an improved hinge for mounting windows so that the windows cannot be opened from the outside.
The drawings illustrate the invention.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional perspective showing a window mounted by using my improved hinge.
Figure 2 is a view in elevation of the hinge removed from the window and showing the window leaf up, as when the window is unlocked so as to open to the inside, and looking in the direction of the arrow 2 in Figure 3.
Figure 3 is an edge view looking in the direction yof the arrow 3 in Figure Q.

The window sill 1 has an inner abutment 2 with an youter vertical stop face 3 and an outwardly sloping ledge 4l. The casing 5 extends upwardly from the sill 1. rllhe window 6 is connected to the casing` 5 by a sliding hinge 7 and my improved hinge 8 and when the window i-s closed the lower stile 9 lits against the stop 3 and cannot be opened from the outside.
The details of the hinge 8 are as follows: The window leaf comprises the attaching 'plate 10. the bearings 11 and. 1Q rolled from the corners of the attaching` plate and eX- tending away from the window7 the cam flange 13 extending from the edge of the attaching plate 10 between the bearings 11 and 12 and having an angled cam slot 141, the hinge pin 15 extendingthrough the bearing 11 and screwed into the sleeve 12, the bearing 16 slidingly mounted upon the hinge pin 15, the lever 17 pivotally connected to the sliding sleeve, and the cam pin Serial No. 592,119.

The slot 141 is formed to have oppositelv inclined end portions projecting above and below the horizontal to permit the cam pin 18 to move toward and away from the hinge pin 15 on rocking the lever 17 on its pivotal connection yon the sleeve 1G, and also serves a means for holding the lever 17 against free movement when in either its upwardly or downwardly extending positions and thereby lock the window in a raised or lowered position.
The casing leaf comprises the attaching plate 19 and the bearings 2O and 21 rolled from the central portion of one edge in a direction towards the window and in the opposite direction from the rolling of the bearings 11 and 12. The parts are assembled loy placing the bearings 20 and 9.1 between the hearings 11 and 12 with the bearing 16 between the bearings 2O and 21 and then inserting` the hinge pin 15. The outer end of the lever 17 extends beyond the cam flange 13 and serves as a handle. When the lever is disposed in an upwardly ei;- tending position as shown in Figure 3. with the cam pin 18 located in the upper end of the cam sloty the window to which the leaf 10 of the hinge is attached will be disposed in an elevated position clear of the stop 3 so that the window may he swung inwardly. The inclined upper margin of the slot 141 engaging the pin18 will. in exerting a sidewise thrust on the pin 18. serve to maintain the lever 17 in its upwardly extending position and thereby support the window in its uppermost position. llVhen it is desired to move the window downwardly after it has v been swung to its closed position, the lever 17 is moved downwardly, which permits the hinge leaf 10 and the window supported thereon to move downwardly therewith; the pin 18 ridin outwardly in the slot 14C as the lever moves downwardly on its pivotal connection with the sleeve 16 until the pin and sleeve are in horizontal alignment: whereupon. upon continued downward movement of the lever 17 the pin 18 will ride into the lower inclined portion yof the slot 141. and into the position shown in Figure 1. The lever 17 will then be disposed in a downwardly inclined position with the pin 18 located at the lower end of the slot 14, which automatically locks the window against the ledge 4 outside of the stop 3 so that the Windon7 cannot he opened from the outside. The hinges are upon the inside of the Window and the Window mustsiving inwardly to open. lhen it is desired to vopen the Window the handle end of the lever 17 is raised to a horizontal position thus elevating the Cain pin 18 to a position intermedia-te the ends of the slot which releases the Window so that it may then be lifted above the stop 3 and swung inwardly. On lifting the Window the pin 18 Will inove into the np- Wardly inclined portion vof the slot 'let and When seated in the upper end of the slot, the Window will be looked in its elevated position. The hinge 7 allows the Window to slide up and down as required to operate the hinge 8 and of eourse the window opening is designed to allow of the operation.
Various changes may be inade without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim-fl. A hinge comprising a Window leaf having an attaching plate With bearings at opposite corners, a slotted cani flange extending from the attaching plate between the bearings, a hinge pin in the bearings. a sleeve on the hinge pin, a lever pivoted to the sliding sleeve and having a Cain )in extending into the cani slot and extending beyond the ealn flange to serve as a handle. and a easing leaf having bearings fitting upon the hinge pin on eaeh side of the sliding sleeve; said pin being' slidable in said bearings and sleeve.
