The invention relates to an improvement in the :form of the rod or link which is used to connect the points of railway Switches, and it is embodied in a construc-' tion in which an accurate 'adjust1nentof either or both'of {the said points may be made with respect to eachother and to the rails, with which ,they co-operate. The device embodying my invention is of such Construction that any desired adjust: ment in the parts indicated maybe made with facility and {without/the necessity ofremoving from their fixed position any of tl eparts. As a consequence there will occur, no interruption of the tr'aflic'on therai'lway by reason of 'a'ny d'esir'ed adjustments beingmade.

In the drawing, Fig. 3, the numeral 10 indicates the cross ties 'ofa section of railway roadbed upon which are secured the usual main rails 11 over which the traffic is moved, all as will be understood. Where it is desired to install a switch, one of the main rails is made to diverge, as at 12 from its parallelism with the companion main rail, and the switch points 13 and 14L- are arranged in the transverse line of such divergence. The plate 19 is provided with a projection 30, perforated near its end, and which in actual practice will extend into aplane below that of the cross ties for the accomodation of the connecting link 31 which forms the locking rod, as is well known, and by means of which the switch points are held positively in one or the other 01 the positions to which they have been moved, so that the flanges of the wheels of the railway car in running against the switch points cannot disturb the relation which they occupy with reference to the traflic rails.
The several means for adjustment which I have provided will enable any necessary or desirable adjustment to be made with the utmost ease and the greatest precision, and without in any way disturbing the connection when it once has been made. The perforated projection 30 may occupy a mean position which usually will be preserved, irrespective of any adjustment of the switch pointswhich may be found necessary. The connecting rod can be lengthened or shortened without disturbing the position of the projection 30, and the adjustment of one switch point without reference to the other can be made. In effecting the desired adjustment, it is necessary only to loosen the jam nuts 26 and 27 at the opposite ends of the turnbuckles, so that the latter may be turned by the application of a wrench to lengthen or shorten the section of the connecting rod; \Vhen the adjustment desired has been made the jam nuts are again set in position against the ends of the turnbuckles. The construction and arrangement are such that the adjusting elements are easily accessible, so that the only tool required for use by the inspector will be the open end wrench which will receive both the jam nuts and the turnbuckle. While I have shown the projection 30 as extending in a plane which is normal to that of the plate 19 it is obvious that the projection need not he so arranged but will have such disposition upon the plate 19 as will enable the switch point locking rod 31 to be conveniently coupled thereto.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A composite connecting rod for the switch points of a railway track, such rod comprising two aligned connecting sections insulated from each other at their contiguous ends and threaded upon their outer ends, turnbuckles upon such threaded ends, and connectors in the opposite ends of the turnbuckles for connection to the switch points.
2. A composite connecting rod for the switch points of a railway track, such rod comprising two threaded sections flattened at their contiguous ends, plates secured thereto to hold such ends in alignment and insulated therefrom, outer ends of the aligned sections being threaded, turnbuckles thereon, and connectors threaded into the outer ends of the turnbuckles and forked for connection to the switch points.
3. A composite connecting rod for the switch points of a railway track, such rod comprising two sections threaded at their outer ends and connected at their inner ends by plates insulated therefrom, one of the said plates having a projection thereon for attachment of the switch point locking rod, turnbuckles threaded upon the outer ends of the sections, and connectors threaded into the opposite ends of the turnbuckles, the said connectors being perforated at their extreme ends for attachment to the switch points.
4. A composite rod for connecting the switch points of a railway track, the said rod comprising two aligned sections, means for connecting the sections, turnbuckles threadedupon the outer ends of the sections, and connectors for the switch points threaded into the opposite ends of the turnbuckles.
5. A composite connecting rod for the switch points of a railway track, the said rod comprising two sections threaded at their outer ends, threaded connectors to the switch points, and turnbuckles intermediate the connectors and the threaded sections, whereby either connector may be adjusted without disturbing the other.
6. In a composite connecting rod for the switch points of a railway track, the said,
rod comprising two sections aligned and united at their contiguous ends, connecting means for the locking rod upon such aligning and uniting means, connectors for attacliingthe rod to the switch points, and turnbuckles for connecting the said connectors and the aligned sections, whereby either connector may be adjusted without disturbing the other or the connection with the 7 locking rod.
