Description

Dec. 2, 1924. 1,517,336
E. ABRI-:Go
MOTOR HEAD Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
UNITED STATES anun EVARISTO ABREGO, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
MOTOR HEAD.
Application filed March 21, 1924.
To al! whom t may concern.'
lle it known that l, EvAnis'ro Annneo, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful. hotor Head, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to cylinder heads for combustion engines and the object thereof is to so construct suc-h a head as to provide means for continuously cleansing the spark plugs whereby the lir'e of the plugs 'is lengthened and its effectiveness increased, all short circuits and ignition troubles at this point being eliminated.
Another object is to provide a cylinder head with walls built around the intake valves and equipped with an opening located directly in front of the spark plugs so that at every suction stroke of the engine the gas drawn into the explosion chamber will shift straight through the. spark plugl points whereby the points are washed at every operation thus producing a continuous cleansing action on the plug.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l represents a bottom plan view oi? a portion of an engine cylinder head constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the vline 2 2 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 3 3, Fig. l.
ln the embodiment illustrated, a cylinder head 1 is shown of the type used on Ford cars and which is equipped with the usual water jacket 2, the inner wall of which forms a dome-shaped ceiling 3 for the head,
Serial No. 700,901.
This head l is equipped with the usual chambers 4 and 5 which lit over the exhaust and intake valves G and 7 as is shown clearly in Fig. l. The chamber 5 which houses the intake valve 7 is separated from chamber 4 by a wall 8 and from the chamber 10 which registers with the cylinder by a wall 9, the latter following the radius ot the valve and cylinder but allowing Yfor a clearance of both as is shown clearly in Fig. l. An opening l1 is formed between the walls 8 and 9 which opening is located directly in front of the spark plug 12.
It is of course well known that a clean spark plug makes the motor spark easy when it is cold and this is insured by locating the points of the plug directly in the path of the gas sucked into the cylinder from the intake manifold through valve 7 and passage l1. Vhen the motor is running the spark plug is protected by a cool wash on every suction of the piston.
7hile this head is primarily intended for a Ford car motor, obviously the invention may be used in connection with any motor head that is, with any motor having a. detachable head. Any forni ot' spark plug may be used in connection with this head.
What is claimed is A cylinder head having a combustion chamber therein, exhaust and intake valve housing chambers, a wallseparating said chambers, a spark plug located adjacent the intake manifold chamber, said wall having an opening therein opposite the plug for the passage of gas from the intake valve to the combustion chamber and in the path of which the port-s of the point are located whereby each suction stroke ot thc cugino cleauses the plug.
In testimony that I claim the 'foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
