Description

E. GREEN GAS BURNER FOR BOILERS Filed 001;. 22. 1923 314 vcutop E I/16 H- Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
ELLIS GREEN, '15 MINERAL WELLS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO TULSA TOOL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF OKLAHOMA.
GAS BURNER- FOR BOILERS.
Application filed October 22, 1923.
1 0 (1/6 whom-it may (,c mcei-n:
Be it known that I, ELLIS GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mineral ells, in the county of Palo Pinto and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Burners for Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a gas burner and particularly to burners for boilers and stills; and the object is to equip a gas burner which will distribute the fuel evenly and secure uniform heat and which will be highly eliicient for burning gas of high or low pressure. Another advantage is the saving of time in equipping boilers or stills with a burner which may be adjusted. ac cording to the pressure of the fuel supply at hand. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this applica tion.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the burner. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, of the mixing chamber, on a smaller scale. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the burner. Fig. l is a vertical section, illl'lFiil'l tlllg the adjustability of the burner. Fig. is a detail view of the steam chest.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughoutthe several views.
The burner is provided with a box or mixing chamber 1 which has a fuel intake 2.
with flanges 3 for spreading the fuel as it enters the mixing chamber. A steam chest 4 is supported on the box or mixing chamber 1 by arms 5. The steam chest l is loosely supported by the arms 5 (for adjusting) so Serial No. 670,171.
that a thin sheet of steam may be thrown into the box 1 over the intake 3. The steam is forced through the port 6 of the chest 4 and into the box 1 at various angles as shown in dotted outline in Fig. 4. The angle may vary according to the pressure of the fuel supply or the degree of heat desired. For using low pressure gas, the steam chest 4 would be tilted forward so as to throw the steam directly over the baffle plate 7 thus causing a suction on the intake 3. This position is shown in dotted outline in Fig. 4. The steam or air pressure may vary according to the pressure of the fuel supply and may be discarded when the pressure of the fuel supply is great enough to throw the flame through the box 1. hen the fuel pressure is low the chest 4 is adjusted so as to throw the stream of air or steam against and over the bafile plate 7 in such a way as to cause a suction on the fuel intake 3 and the proper manipulation of the chest 4: and pressure of air or steam used will increase the degree of heat and cut down the fuel consumption. The steam or air is induced into the chest l through a pipe 8 and governed by a valve 9 l Vhat I claim, is,-
A burner for boilers comprising a mixing chamber projecting within and without the boiler, a steam or air chest adjustably mounted on said chamber, means for supplying steam or air to said chest, means for varying the direction of a sheet stream of air or steam through said mixing chamber. and means for supplying fuel to said mix ing chamber.
In testimony whereof, I set my hand, this day of October, 1923.
ELLIS GREEN.
