To all '4c hom ci may conce/fn Be it known 'that I, CHARLES F. BRYAN, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Hetland, in the countyof Kingsbury and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Snowplow, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in snow plows and hasior its principal object to provide a simple and eilicient means for removing snow from' a road or highway, means being associated therewith for discharging the snow removed from the road to the side thereof.
A further object of the invention .is to provide a snow plow of the above mentioned character, wherein means is provided for breaking up the lumps of snow before the 'saine reachesA he blower fan wherebythe same may properly receive and discharge the snow in such a manner as topreventV attached to a tractor the clogging of the snow plow,` i y Y A still further object of the inventionis to provide a snow plowof the above mentioned character, which is of such a construction as to enable the same to be readily for' operating the same, means being provided for actuating the ro tary cutter and blower fan of the plow simultaneously. y A.
A further object is to provide a snow plow of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposesy for which it is designatd. p
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description. l

Figure 4 is a vertical section showing the arrangement of the rotary cutter and blower fan.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred einbcdiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a substantially rectangular sha casing, the trout tace of which is rlet pipe whereby the former open. Arranged on the lower edge of the forward portion of the casing is the scoop 2, the purpose of which is well known in the. art; Extending centrally through the casing is the driven shaft 3 on the forward end of which is supported and adapted to rotate therewith, the rotary cutter ,designated generally by the numeral 4.
` The rotary cutter comprises the enlarged annular rim 5.and the hub ortion 6 which is` mounted on theouter orward end of the shaft 3. Cutter blades such as are il'- lustrated at 7 4extend radially between the hub portion 6 and the rim 5 in the manner more clearlyv illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings. Suitable bracing means such as illustrated at 8 extend Jfrom thel annular rim to a sleeve 9 which is secured onthe 4shaft 3 at a point adjacent the hub portion 6 in the rotary cutter 4 in the manner more clearly illustrated inFigure 4 o the drawings. 'lhe cutter is `ada ted to rotate within the casing 1 in suc a manner as to break up the lumps of snow which are -deliveredf to the cutter by the scoo ,2 as the snow plow Ymoves lalong the -roa or highway.
:The bottom of the casing is inclined rearwardly as illustrated at 1() to provide the accumulation and depositing ofthe snow therein. Communicating with the back of the casing adjacentv the lower central portion. thereof is the fan casing 11. Ex nding through the casing 11 is' the sha1 12 and mounted on the forward end` thereof and arrangedxwithin the fan casing 11 is the blower fan 13 which is yadapted to rotate with the shaft'in' the'manner hereinafter to be more fully described. y
The fanor blower casing 11 is provided with an outlet-pipe 14 whichy extends upwardly therefrom adjacent the rear portion of the casing 1 and a discharge pipe such as illustrated at 15 is movably supported on the upper end of the outlet pipe 14, a supporting collar such as illustrated at 16 being provided for enabling thedischarge pipe to vbe rotatably supported on the'outy may be moved in any desired position. The provision of the outlet and discharge -pipe provides a means whereby the snow will be delivered therethrough by the rotary fan andv will cause the snow to be discharged along the side of the road or highway when the snow plow is in use.

Suitable bearings such as areillustrated at19 and 20 respectively are secured to the rear portions of the casing and fancasing 11 for cooperation, with the shafts therethrough. v. shown at 21v are 3 and 12 respectively which extend Grease cups such as are provided for each of the bearings for the purposes wellknown in the art.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
