Description

B. B. HILL.
Gord,
N0.l5l,590 Patentedlune2,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT -OEFTCE BENJAMIN B. HILL, OF VORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,590, dated June 2, 1874;
March 6, 1874.
application tiled is twisted and laid.
The accompanying drawing represents a small piece ot' my cord, in which l l l represent a metallic `wire twisted in with the threads ot' each of the strands 2 2 2. The strands are made up of as many fibrous threads as may be desired, according to the size of cord that may be Wanted. The wire is introduced as 011e of these threads, and is twisted in connection with the fibrous threads, and then laid in the usual Way.
This method of making cordage containing metallic wire enables me to produce a nice flexible line or cord, very strong and durable for various uses. Twisting the wire in connection with the threads holds the thread so lrmly that it cannot slip on the wire.
I am aware that Wire has been used in cords by covering it with braid, or binding it with thread or yarn, all of which processes I disclaim.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cord composed of several strands twisted together, each strand consisting of wire and brous material twisted together before the seve al strands are united to form the cord, as herein described.
