To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM C. Fo'rn a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Beta'ining Hair in Its Dressed Condition, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a composition of matter suitable for use as a hair-dressing and has for its primary object the provision of a new and improved hair dresslng compound which when applied to the hair of the head will retain the locks and outer strands of hair in their previously combed or-dressed condition. i t
A more specific object of the invention is to provide an improved liquid compound of the above character which may be'conveniently applied to a persons hair by means of aspray oratomizer and which when applied will react to hold the crossed outer strands of hair together, thereby providing a substantially invisible hair not which will retain the hair in its previously dressed condition. I
A further object is to provide a hair dressing compound of the above character which, when applied to the hair, will react to effect an adhesion of the outer crossed strands of hair to form an enclosing net,
which compound will not injury the scalp, will not be of a gummy nature or stiflen the hair, and which may be readily removw from the hair icy-combing, withoutdanger of breaking thehair. The preferred compound of my invention may also be used as all an antiseptic and sterilizer, provides an effective means for removing dandrud from the hair and scalp. o
The compound is made preferably by mixing together in a water. solution (distilled water eing used) of the following ingrediin preferably the following propor- 1 Phenegol 20 grains. 2 Paralysol 16 grains. 3 Sarcocolla grains. 4 Egg albumen 10 grains. 5 Casein 30 ins. 6) Sodium si icate 20 grains. (7) Distilled water 1 pint. I The ingredients 1, 2, 3 and 4 are mixed together in a water solution and heated'to 120 do Fahrenheit and the ingredients and form a r Application filed September 15, race, same... 58183455..
5 and 6 are mixed together in a water solut1on and heated to 112 degrees Fahrenheit.
Both mixtures are then mixed together and distilled water added in sufficient quantities to make one pint of the compound.
It will be understood that the above proportions may be varied to a certain extent w thout departure from my invention. Certam of the ingredients are optional. It is possible, for example, to make a compound of considerable value by using'ingredients (I), (5), (6 and (7), or ingredients (2),
5 (6) an (7), or ingredients (1'), (3) (7) (7), or ingredients (3), (5), (6) and If desired, a small quantity of an essent1al 011, for example, citronella oil, may be added to any one of the above combinatlons of. ingredients, so as to give a glossy appearance to the hair to whlch the compound is ap lied.
If desire cottage cheese may be used as one ingredient instead of casein. In such case the cottage cheese will be used in somewhat larger proportions, for example, appro'xlmately A; more than the proportion above mentioned for casein.

The compound is semi-transparent and-is therefore. substantially invisible when a plied to the hair. It maintains the hair in a soft, pliable state, is not of a y character, and assists in restoring faded or discolored hair to its natural color. The compound lsvery edective in retaining permanent Marcel waves, or other forms of curls.
The compound may also be used as an antiseptic and sterilizer in any situation where antisepticsdand sterilizers, in liquid ylbe moved from the hair, without breakin the .halr, by combing the hair with a Edi? ltlti v1. A composition-for the purpose specicasein 30 grains, sodium silicate 20 grains, 10 fied, consisting of a water solution of and distilled Water 1 int. phenegol, paralysol, sarcocolla, egg albumen, 3. A composition or the purpose specicasein, and sodiumsilicate. v fied consisting of a water solution of pheno- 3 2. A. composition for the purpose speci' gol, paralysol, sarcocolla, and egg albumen,
fie-d, containing the following ingredients in heated to 120 F. and mixed with a water 15 substantially the proportions as follows: solution of casein and sodium silicate heated phenegol 20'grains, paralysol 16 grains, sarto 112 F;
00001121 60 grains, egg albumen 10 grains, WILLIAM C. FOTH.
