JAY G. HAMILTON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TABLET HOLDER- OR DIRECTORY.
Application filed August 7, 1922.
of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tablet Holders or Directories, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a tablet holder or directory, and to a device of this character which is particularly adapted for holding a list of names of members of clubs or the like.
In club houses or in office buildings or the like, there is usually provided a directory containing, for instance, the names of the members of the club or the occupants of the building, and it is essential in a directory of this kind that the names may be changed with facility, as the occasion demands.
It is therefore the particular object of this invention to provide a tablet holder or directory wherein the plates or tablets, upon which is delineated the desired information, may be easily positioned upon the holder, and may be removed at will.
The novel combination, construction and arrangement of parts wherein the object of this invention is efiiciently accomplished will be made more apparent as the description proceeds, especially when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings; 7
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a tablet holder, constructed in accordance with the present invention; and,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken on the plane indicated by the line 2-2 in Fig. 1, the view also showing by dotted lines the manner of inserting the tablets.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout, it will be seen that there is illustrated a support 10 which may be the wall of the building or any other suitable support. Secured to this support is a pair of vertically extending holding members 11, suitably spaced apart to accommodate the tablets or plates 12 upon which there is adapted to be delineated such data as names or advertising matter, as desired.
Connection between the tablets or plates Serial No. 580,183.
12 and the holding members 11 is accomplished by providing a plurality of extending grooves 13 in the holding members and forming tongues 14 on the tablets or plates 12. In practice these tongues 14 are adapted to be lodged in the grooves 13, as will be immediately apparent. To facilitate the insertion of the tongues 14 into these grooves and to more securely hold the tablets, the opposed edges of the holding members 11 are provided with longitudinally extending grooves 15 of greater depth than the longitudinal grooves, these grooves also engaging the ends of-thetablets or plates.
In practic the holding members 11 are secured to the wall, or other suitable support, by screws or bolts 16, and the tablets or plates 12 are flexed outwardly a sufficient distance permitted by the greater depth of the longitudinal grooves to permit the inser- 'tion of the tongues 14 into the grooves 13.
The plates are then released and as they straighten out, they will be securely and firmly held in position with the ends of the tablets covered by the holding members, but easily removable from the holder, by inserting a knife edgebeneath a medial portion of the tablet to flex it outwardly. The longitudinally extending grooves 15 facilitate the insertion of the tongues 14 into the grooves 13.
In practice the wider tablets or plates will be provided with a plurality of tongues 14 and the spacing of the tongues 14 will be standard, as will be the spacing of the grooves 13, so that irrespective of the width of the tablets or plates and the number of tongues carried thereby, the plates may be held in position immediately adjacent one another.
From the foregoing it will be immediately apparent that there is provided a tablet holder or directory in which plates of any width may be removably held in place. Furthermore, the construction is such that a simple and durable structure is provided.
While one physical embodiment of the invention is illustrated herein it is not intend ed that the invention be unnecessarily limited but reservation is made to make such changes as may come within the purview of the accompanying claims.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described, a pair of fixed holding members secured in spaced parallel relation to a Wall or the like, said holding members being formed with a plurality of equally spaced transverse grooves and opposite longitudinal grooves a plurality of flexible metal'tablets having delineated thereon certain data, said Inetaltablets being provided with longitudinally extending tongues on theirends to enter said transverse grooves, the side edge portions of theopi-positeendsof the tablletsjentering the longitudinal:grooves, said metal tablets capable-ofbeing-flexed to facilitate the insertion-of. saidtongues and: end side edges into said longitudinal; and transverse grooves.
2. A; device of the class described cor-iiprisin-g a p of fixed spacedholding meniloers, said holding members being; providedwith a. plurality" of equally spaced trans verse; grooves a: pluralityv of: flexible, metal tablets having; dell -eatedthereon certain data, said 3 tablets: being provided; with lengitudinally extending tonguesoir theiropposi-te ends, the: opposed (edges of said holding me abers being. formed-With longitudi+ nally extending; grooves w'hereby 'said tablets inay. be flexed andsaidtongues inserted in said tr a-nsve-rse grooves, said a longitudinal grooves engaging the side edges of: the opposite endsoiz' I said stabletswhen said tablets are=in position within thedevi-ce and in a. non-flexed .conditlon;
3; Ina device of the class described, a pair of spaced fixed holding members, and a plurality of flexible tablets easily removably interposed between said holding members by flexing said tablets, there being a longitudinally extending tongue and transverse groove and a longitudinal groove and tablet-end-side edgeconnection between the holding members and the tablets when said tablets are withinwthe device andwinv annon: flexed-condition:
