Description

Nov. 4 1924.
G. P. SPADY CRIB Filed July 1920 L: I "I n l h "m r" Patented Nev. 4, 13924.
pair
GEORGE P. SPADY, OF IMPERIAL, NEBRASKA.
CRIB.
Application filed July 6, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. SPADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Imperial, in the county of Chase and State of 6 Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cribs of the swinging or swaying type and has for its primary object the provision of an improved method of construction for the swinging or swaying device.
Another object of the invention is to provide an extremely neat and substantial appearing crib which will embody resilient swinging or swaying means without the customary complexly assembled spring structure.
A further objectof the invention is the provision of an easily assembled crib, one that has but few parts, is cheap to make and takes but little effort to operate.
Other objects of my invention will appear in the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the crib with part of one side broken away to disclose details.
Figure 2 is a partial plan of the crib and Figure 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
In the drawing, where similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the views, A designates the bed portion or body of the crib. I; is the resilient supporting and swaying means and C is the underlying base.
Referring first to the body of the crib A which may be of the usual construction comprising a lower frame 4, transverse parallel slats, 5, corner posts 6, guard strips T and vertical bars 8, connecting the lower frame 4 and guard strips 7 This structure is preferably of wood but may be made of any other suitable material whereby a maximum of strength will be combined with a minimum of weight.
Referring now to resilient supporting and swaying means B, such may be made of heavy spring metal or tough wood enlarged Serial No. 649,921.
at its lower end as at 9 to provide rigidity and additional material for screws or analogous attaching means 10 which rigidly fasten the device to underlying base C. To afl'ord additional security against movement of the supports especially lateral movement, the lower end 9 is placed in the extreme corner of the underlying base and abuts the end bar 15, as shown in Figure 1. For purposes of illustration there are four supporting and swaying members shown, but the invention is not limited to a specific num her. The upper end of B is provided with a way 11 which registers with a passage 12 of the adjacent lower frame 4 and a dowel or similar device 13 supports body A upon means B by passing through way 11 and passage 12, the same being preferably of a length to serve such purpose for both sides as shown in Figure 2.
Underlying base C may now be described as having end bars 15 and side strips lt rigidly joined in any suitable manner to form a substantial base for the attachment of members B as above described.
In assembling, the resilient supporting and swaying means are placed with their broad sides parallel to each other and parallel to the sides of body A. This construction prevents any longitudinal movement and allows their resiliency to be utilized in swaying the crib body laterally.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention; but,
I claim:
1. In a crib, the combination of a body, a rectangular supporting base having side strips and end bars and a plurality of vertically disposed resilient supports connecting the body and base and formed of straight flat strips having their upper ends secured to end portions of said body and having their lower ends secured in the corners of said base.
2. In a crib, the combination of a body, a supporting base comprising side strips and connecting end bars, and vertical resilient supports, mounting the body in spaced rela tion above the base and formed of straight strips having their lower end portions se cured t0 the side strips of the base and having edge faces abutting the end bars of the base. p
8. In a crih a body, a rectangular base having side strips and end bars, vertically dis osed supporting strips between, the base an hedy andi formed of resilient material,
rods passing through the body and upper GEORGE P. SPADY.
