Application filed December 20, 1922.
T all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JOHN GonnoN, subj ect of the King of Great Britain. residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved pipe hanger particularly adapted for supporting stove pipes or the like, and seeks, as one of its principal objects, to provide a device of this character which will be simple and efficient in construction and which will be adapted for a wide range of use.
The invention has as a further object to provide a pipe hanger which may be adjusted in length.
And the invention has as a still further object to provide a hanger embodying a pipe encircling strap which may be readily adjusted to meet the requirements of pipes of different diameters.
Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing one of my improved hangers in connection with the flue pipe of a conventional gas range,
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the device,
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view showing a slight modification of the invention.
In carrying the invention into effect, I form my improved device with a lineally adjustable stem which is composed of a plurality of complemental sections including a barrel into one end of which is threaded a supporting rod 11 having a circular base flange 12 and extending from the adjacent end of the rod axially thereof is a wood screw 13 suitably secured to the rod. Threaded into the barrel at its opposite end is an outer rod let provided at its outer end with a circular head 15 and mounted upon the rod is a pipe strap 16. This strap may be formed from a piece of suitable sheet metal and is provided at one end with a head 17 overlying the head 15 of the rod 14 and extending through the head 17 is a screw or other suitable fastening device 18 threaded Serial No. 607,986.
into the rod detachably connecting the strap therewith. Near its outer end the head is provided with a transverse slot 19 adapted to receive the free end of the strap therethrough. It is now to be observed that the rod 11 is provided with a left hand thread while the rod 14: is provided with a right hand thread, the barrel being, of course, threaded accordingly so that by rotating the barrel the hanger may be readily adjusted lineally.
In Figure 1 of the drawings, I have illustrated my improved device in connection with the flue of a conventional gas range, the range being indicated at 20 and the flue at 21. In mounting the device, the wood screw 13 of the supporting rod 11 is sunk into the wall or other adjacent support when the strap 16 is disposed to embrace the flue, the strap being passed around the flue and having its free end inserted through the slot 19 of the head 17 thereof and bent upwardly for securing the strap in position tightly embracing the flue. This done, the barrel 10 may then be rotated for adjusting the device in length to suit the distance between the wall and the flue when the device will serve to rigidly support the fine with respect to the wall. It will thus be seen that I provide a particularly simple and efficient device for the purpose set forth and, of course, any number of the devices may be employed in connection with a flue or pipe, as may be found necessary.
In Figure 4 of the drawings, I have illustrated a slight modification of the invention wherein I employ a squared barrel 22 provided at one end with a base flange 23 and appropriately secured to the barrel at its adjacent end is a wood screw 24:. Slidably fitting in the barrel at its outer end is a rod 25 which may be secured in adjusted position by a binding screw 26 threaded through the wall of the barrel near its outer end and formed on said rod is a circular head 27. Screwed or otherwise secured to said head is a pipe strap 28 identical with the strap 16 of the preferred embodiment. Thus, as will be seen, this modified construction also provides a very simple device and in view of the description regarding the manner of use of the preferred form of the invention it is believed that further explanation in this regard, with reference to the modified structure, is unnecessary.
ill)
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
A pipe'Tnnger comprising a barrel reversely threaded interiorly at its opposite end portions, a suspending rod engaged in one end of the barrel, a flange on said rod at the free end thereof to bear against a fixed support, a securing device projecting from said flange, a hanger 1 0d engaged inthe opposite end of the barrel, a head on the outer end of the hanger rod, and. a. pipe-encircling band? detaohab'ily' secuiied across and against said head, rotation of the barrel etfecting simultaneous endwise adjustment of the rods;
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN GORDON. a s.]
