MONEY BOX.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUST C. Soon, a citizen of the United States, residin at New York, in the county of New York, tate of New York, have invented a new and useful Money Box; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap- 1 pertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to money boxes, and has for its object to provide a device of this character particularly adapted for use by bank messengers and others who carry money and securities over the public highway and streets. The money box is provided with a plurality of pistols concealed therein,

which pistols may be discharged as desiredby the user of themoney box by closing a contact in circuit with a motor controlling the pistols while the hands are raised in the A further object is to provide a motor having a shaft provided with cranks, which cranks have link and bar connections with the triggers of the pistols whereby when said motor shaft is rotated pulls will be imparted on the pistols.

A further object is to provide steel cables 80 on the shoulder and waist straps, whereby preventing the money box from being cut from the carrier thereof.

A further object is to provide a money and security receiving receptacle above the 86 pistol receptacle and which money and security receptacle may be removed when it is desired to have access to the pistol and motor compartment. Also to provide holders for the pistols which will positivelygrip the opposite sides of the pistols and will hold them in a manner whereby they will be easily removed, thereby allowing any number of pistols to be utilized as desire With the above and other objects in view 1 v the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the body of the money box, which body is semicircular shaped so that it will closely fit and conform to the curvature of the body of the person using the same, thereby taking u the minimum of room and materially adding to the comfort of the person carrying the same. Hingedly connected at 2 to the forward side of the body is a cover 3, which cover is provided with a hasp 4 adapted to engage over a staple 5 whereby the cover 3 may be locked in closed position by means of the padlock 6. Disposed within the body member 1 is a removable money and security receptacle, which receptacle 7 is semicircular shaped and is supported on a horizontally disposed flange 8, w ich flange is spaced from the bottom 9 of the. body member 1, therefore it will be seen that a pistol compartment 10 is formed beneath the removable receptacle 7. The receptacle 7 is adapted to receive money and securities and may be removed from the body member 1 for filling or removing the contents thereof, thereby obviating the handling of the entire device when money is not being actually transported through the streets.

Secured to the body 1 by means of screws 11 and cleat 12 is a belt 13 adapted to extend around the waist of the person carrying the money box. To prevent the belt from being cut for releasing the money box, a steel cable 14 is provided, which cable is also se-.'

cured by the screws 11 and the cleat 12 and engages the outer side of the belt so that it will not come into contact with the body of the user, and even though the belt 14 is cut the cable 14 would still hold the device to the body of the messenger. Secured to the opposite ends of the body member 1 by means of cleats 15 is a shoulder strap 16, which strap is adapted to be passed over the leftshoulder of the messenger as shown in Figure 1 for supporting the weight of the money box as a whole and placing the weight on the shoulder. To protect the strap 16, a steel cable 17 is provided which engages the outer side of the strap 16 and prevents the money box from being cut from the messenger by a knife.

Secured to the bottom 9 of the body of the money box is a plurality of spaced pistol holders 18 and it is to be understood that any number of pistol holders may be used, and they maybe disposed in the compartment 10 in any manner desired, however for purposes of illustration the istol 'holders are positioned whereby the plstols 19 held thereby will fire at different angles whereby the messenger or person carrying the money box, may, upon being held up, turn to a position where the pistol will point at the highwayman. Each pistol holder 18 comprises a base 20' having a pistol receiving block 21, the upper end of which is provided with oppositely disposed' spring flanges 22 adapted to grip the opposite sides of the pistol 19 when forced therebetwcen. When the pistol 19 is forced between the spring flanges 22, its trigger guard 24 is received in the aperture 25 in the upper side of the block 21 as clearly shown in Figure 3, therefore it will be seen that the pistol will be held against lateral movement. To prevent upward tilting of the rear end of the pistol, the base20 is provided with a spring arm 26 adapted to engage the rear side of the pistol grip 27, therefore it will be seen that the pistols are positively held against lateral movement or tilting after being placed in position, and they may be easily removed or replaced. Secured to the bottom 9 of the body member 1 is an electric motor 28, which motor is provided with a crank shaft 29, the ends of which are rotatably mounted in bearings 30 carried bythe body member 1 and in bearings 31 carried by the bottom 9. Crank shaft 29 is provided with cranks 32, the end ones of which are connected to the triggers of the rearwardly pointing pistols 19 by means of connecting rods 33, therefore it will be seen that as the crank 29 rotates the rearwardl extending pistols will be continuously fired? It will be noted that the pistols shown are of the automatic type, consequently the firing will be of a continuous nature. The forwardly extending pistols 19have their triggers 34 extending through loops 35 in a bar 36, and which bar is connected to the cranks 35 adjacent the motor 28 by means of connecting rod 37, therefore it will be seen that the cured to the inner wall thereof, therefore a rigid structure is formed.

A Secured to the forward side of the body 1 of'the money box is a conventional form of knife switch 39, one side of which switch is in circuit with the motor 28 through the wire 40, and the other" side in circuit with the battery 41 through the

supporting ring 47 which extends over the shoulder of the messenger and thence to the batteries 41 which are carried by the belt 13, and to the motor 28, as clearly shown in Figure 8. It will be seen that the messenger can easily close the circuit when his hands are raised by simply closing the switch 44 by pressure of the thumb thereon. The knife switch is preferably partially open as shown in Figure 7, however the messenger in. raising his hand touches the same sufficiently to close the switch 39, consequently when his hands are raised, it is only necessary to close the switch 44 for closing the circuit and starting the motor 28, thereby firing the pistols.

From the above it will be seen that a messengers money box is provided, which has in connection therewith means whereby the messenger may fire a pistol concealed within the money box when his hands are in raised position when being held up by a highwayman.

The invention having'been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. The combination -with a portable money box, of a plurality of pistol holders disposed in said money box, a plurality of pistols disposed in said pistol holders, triggers carried by said pistols, a bar connecting said pistols, a motor, a crank shaft carried by said motor, connecting rods. connecting the bar and the crank shaft, and means for controlling said motor.

2. The combination with aportable money box, means carried bysaid box for attaching the same to the body of a person, of a pistol holder dis osed in said money box, a pistol dispose in said=pistol holder, a

trigger carried by said pistol, a motor disposed in'said money box, a crank shaft carried by said motor, means connecting said crank shaft and said trigger, whereby upon rotation of said crank shaft a pull will be imparted on the trigger, and means for controlling said motor. 1

3. The combination withaportable money box, a plurality of pistol holders disposed in said money box, pistols disposed in said holders triggers carried by said pistols, of means or imparting a pull on said triggers, said means comprising a motor, a crank shaft'carried by said motor, a bar connect ing said triggers, link connections between said bar and the crank shaft, and means for controlling said motor.

4. The combination with a money box having a plurality of pistols therein, said pistols being controlled by means of a motor having link and connecting rod connections with the triggers, of pistol holders for said pistols, said holders comprising blocks secured to the money box, pistol gripping flanges carried by the upper ends of the blocks and adapted to grip opposite sides of the pistols with their trigger guards in recesses in the blocks, and spring arms carried by the rear ends of the blocks and adapted to engage the rear ends of the pistols.

5. The combination with a money box having a pistol disposed therein and adapted to be fired by a pull onthe triggers there-' of, of a holder for said pistol, said holder comprising a stationary block, spaced flanges carried bythe upper end of the blockand adapted to have spring engagement with the opposite sides of a pistol, the upper side of the pistol holder being provided with a trigger guard receiving recess, and an arm carried by the rear end of the block and adapted to engage the rear end of the pistol.
