To all whom it muy' concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrn L. Joran, of New Haven, in the county ot' New H aven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Soling Shoes; and I do hereby declare the following', when taken in connection with the accompanying (,lrawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, olea-r, and exa-et description ot' the same, and which said drawings constitute part ot this specification, and represent in- Figure l a side View, and in Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in the construction ot' boots and shoes, the object being to protect the upper leather at the toe, and it consists in a protection formed by a narrow strip or welt rabbeted upon the inner or upper side, and made to conform to the shape or outline ofthe sole.
A is the sole; B, the insole, C, the upper, denoted in solid black. After the insole and upper are secured together upon the last in l the usual or other manner, I place around the toe the welt a, extending back upon both sides. This welt is recessed upon the upper or inside, as seen in Fig. 2. The recessed portion ot' the welt tits onto and around'the upper, the edge ot' the welt 1n jecti1ig .up onto the upper. I Claim as my invention- The welt (l, for the protection ol' the upper of boots and shoes, formed from a strip of niaterial rabbeted or recessed on the upper side, and made to conform to the shape otl the solo, substantially as set forth.
