Be it known that I, Lnonann G. FlrUnoY.
a citizen of the United States, residing at- Joliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful lmproven'ients in Circuit-Control EX- tensions for Electric Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to circuit control devices for electric lamps and the like and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved pendant switch for removable association with the lamp plug and socket for controlling the flow of curreut'therethrough to the lamp, thereby eliminating the inconveniences generally contingent with the lighting of over head electric lamps, which are not provided with wall switches.
Another object of the invention is to provide a removable control switch for lamp sockets embodying an insulating body for connect-ion with an ordinary lamp socket and arranged to receive an ordinary electric lamp, the body having formed therein a pair of spaced contacts, which are adapted to be engaged, by a pair of spaced contacts carried by a removable cap member, which has associated therewith an ordinary type of pendant switch, the pendant switch form- 30 ing aconvenient means for controlling the How of current, without necessitating the reaching to a considerable height for engaging the usual lamp switch.
A -further object. of the invention is to provide a' novel means for arranging the spaced contacts in the insulating body and a novel means for connecting the contacts in the body and for holding the parts of the body in place against accidental displacement.
A still furt-herobject of the invention is to provide an improved pendant switch attachment for lamp sockets of the above character, which will be durable and eflicient in use; one that will be simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists int-he novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described,
claimed and illustrated in the aceompanylng drawings, forming a part of this speclfication, in which drawings:

The plug portion A includes'an insulating body preferably formed of porcelain and includes an upper section 10 and a lower section 11. The body portion is preferably formed in these two sections, in order to facilitate the assembling of the plug por tion and the contacts therein. The upper end of the section 10 is reduced in diameter as at 12 and has arranged thereon the threaded contact sleeve 13. which is adapted to be threaded into an ordinary lamp socket. The threaded sleeve 13 is provided with a pair of inwardly extending diametrically opposed attaching lips: 14 which are seated in suitable recesses 15 formed in the upper fa e of the section 10.
The lower end of the section 11 is provided with an inwardly extending bore 16 in which is titted a threaded contact sleeve 17, which is adapted to receive the base of an ordinary electric lamp. This contact sleeve 17 at its upper or inner end is also provided with a. pair of inwardly extending attaching lips 18. which are seated in suitable recesses 19 formed in the inner wall of the bore 16.
The sections 10 and 11 are provided with a pair of spaced parallel aligned bores 20 which receive suitable'retaining and conducting bolts 21. As shown these bolts extend through. the attaching 14 of the contact sleeve 13 and through the sections and attaching lips 18 of the eont'act sleeve 17. The inner ends of the bolts have fitted thereon suitable! retaining nuts 22. Thus it can be seen that thescr 'bolts 21 perform a triple function, first to attach the contact sleeve 13 in position, "second to connect the sections 10 and 11 together, and third to electrically connect the contact sleeves 13 and 17 togethercand tohold the contact sleeve l7 in position.
The section'lO is also provided with a I centrally disposed bolt-e23 which receives the central contact bolt 24,the upper end of which engages and retains inplace the central contact plate '25, which is adapted to engage the ordinary central contact of the lamp socket. The inner end. of this bolt 24 is'electrically connected with a contact strip 26 which is formed on the contact member 27 of the pair of contact members 27 and 28. These contact members 27 and 28 have their bases embedded in suitable recesses 29 formed in the inner face of the section 11 and are retained in place by suitable contact screws 30. One of the contact screws '30 holds in place the central spring contact member 31 which is located within the bore 1 6 at the central portion thereof and forms the. central contactwhich is adapted to be engaged byithe' central contact of an ordinary lamp base. Each of the contact 'mem bers 27 and 28 include upstanding resilient contact legs 32 which extend outwardly from the inner face of the section 11. The inner or lower face of the section 10 isprovided with a pair of spaced inwardly/extending notches 33 which are adapted'to receive the spring contact legs 32 and these notches 33 open out through one side face of the plug A, which face is flattened as at 34 in order to snugly receive the cap B.
By this arrangementof the spaced contacts 27 and 28 the circuit throughtheicentral contacts and 31 is-normally broken and ':-it can only be closed "by the bridging ofthe contact members 27 and '28.
r The cap' member B can 'be of the usual orfany preferred construction and includes the hollow insulating body 35 which has secured thereinthe outwardly extending spacedcontact tongues 36 which areadapted to be inserted in the notches 33 intoengage- #me'nt with the resilient legs 32 of the contact members 27 and 28. These contact tongues 36 have electrically connected thereto conductor wires38 which mayhave electrically connected thereto any suitable or preferred type of electric switch or circuit closer 39. 7 By this construction it can be} seen that when the body 35 is plaoed in position and the switch 39 operated so as to close the circuit, the contact '27 and 28 will be bridged allowing the circuit to be closed through the electric lamp or other device placed in the bore 16 of the plugA.
