Patented Oct. 28, 1924.
BRUCE GREEN DE WOOISON, OF ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA. I
GAME.
Application fi1ed January 20, 1922. Sria1 No. 530,691.
T0 (/32 107mm may concmm:
Be it knovn that I, BRUCE GREEN DE VOOLFSON, a citizen' of the United States of America, residing at Allentown, in the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsyivania, have invented certain new and useful mprovemehts in Games; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description of the same, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in games of chance having for an object to provide an amusing and interesting game which may be played by a number of persons, involving the calling of various letters or numerals presented upon suitable niaster carde, tags, or other game features loyy a person other than a player of the game, such matter upon the master elements corresponding with matter, such as letters or numerals presented upon tags or the like removably secured to game cards called by the various players, whereby, should any one of the cards of such players bear or be provided ndth the particular letter or 'numeral called from the master element, the same can ho moved or 1ndicated upon sa1d card until the full complement of its letters or nuinbers has been called or exhausted, whereupon the particular player holding that card is declared the winner of the game.
Other objects Will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinaiter.
In order that the invention and its mode of application may be readily understood by persons skilled in the art, 1 have in the accompanying illustrative drawings and in the detailed. following description based thereon, set out one possible embodiment of the same.
In these drawings.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of the game board;
Figure 2, comprehends elevationsof certain of the master elements;
Figure 3 is a detail in perspective of the game board; and,
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse section therethrough.
Having more particular reference to the drawings, in connection with which like charaeters of reference Will designate corresponding parts throughout, the improved game may be stated t0 comprehend a plurality of master elements, 'such as 'tags, checks, or similar devices; shown upon the drawings and indicated loy the numeral 1, these pieces being 'or1ned of card board, inetal or other material and having presented upononefacethereof, letters, numerals, or syinbols. In this particular embodiment, I have selected for the -purpose ci: illustration, the arrangement of letters upon the faces of the master elcments or checks l, providing fifty two cit" such elements and individually arranging' thereupon the various letters of the alphabet, bOth small' and capital, such for example, as shown in the Figure 2, whereuPon capital R is arranged upon one of the pieces,the small letter 0 upon another, the sntiall ltter 8 upon another, the small letter z' upon anbther and the small letter e upon still another, thus" constituting the proper name Rosie; In other words, the master elements include each letter of the alphabet both small and capital and in consequence, there vvould be one master element presenting the capital letter R and, another presenting the small letter 7, et cetera.
The varios 1naster elements arc arranged in. a bag box, or other suitabl receptacle and areindividually seleCted by a pe1Son other than a player of the game and called by him to such players,whereupon the called master element is arranged upon a board 01' table 2 having a plurality of pins 3 arranged thereupon corresponding in number to the number of 1naster elements, so that such elemonts, as called' may be engaged with the various pins 3, openings'4: being fo1med in the upper or other suitable portions0f said elements 1 as clearly shown whereby t0 9 fcilitate snob engagement.
The players of the gaine are prov ded with one or more cards 5, ormed oi paste boa1*d,
inetal or other suitable 1naterialhavi1ig series of spaced rings 6 engaged with the upperportion of the'same throughout their lengths as shown in the Figure 3. Movably or slidably engaged with each of these rings 6 are checks or tags 7 having letters 8 presented upon the opposite sides of the saine corresponding to: the letters arranged upon the faces of the various master elements l, such for example, as the capital letter R, the small letter 0 and so on, spelling the mime Rosie, such as notedfor purposes 11 of illustration in connection with the master elementsd.
During the-progreSs of the game, shou]d the person caHing the letters upon the master eiements l, cal] the capital letcer R; that particuiar p1ayer Whose card' is pro- Vided with a tag 7 lettered R wou1d move or slide such 1etter about the particu1ar ring 6 securing the: same to the card 5 to the opposite side of su.ch card, whereupon should the small letter 8 ce caHed by the person holding the mastere1ements 1, the tag bearingthe small lettr 8 upon the card 5 Would be correspondingly moved toa position adjacent the first side of .Said card, If now the small letter 6 was called from the master element 1, chose players Whose oards were provided with tags bearing the letter e Would .move the same to the reverse or opposite sides of their respective oards before. Thus, for example, should that particular player holding the card 5 bearing thefiveletters-R 0 s z.e have each of the lettered; tags ca11ed by the person holding the: master; elements upon reversing the same,. the proper name Rosie would be speHed and in consequence, sinoe the t-ags nponE this particular card would be exhauscedthat player would be declared winner of the g a1nep Of course, any number of cards may be given the various players, such as conditions or: preferenc6 may dictate and in consequence, the length or duration of the game may becontroMed accordingly.
Instead of providing the tags 7 with lette1s such as i1idicated at 8, it is to be ex pressly undexst-ood that I may employ numexals instead. and therefore when all of the numeral bea1ingtags of a particular card of a;playerare called from the master elements and moved to the reversed side of said'card theplayenholding the same would be declared winner of the game.
Because of the fact that the. person callingthe master elements 1 arranges the same individually.upon the various pins 3 on the game board 2, it 'Wi1l also be undexstood that should;quesflon arise as to whether or not the letteror numeral of a particular tag,had
been called, the same could be readily veri fied;fron inspection of the master elements engaged with the pin 3 on the board 2.
Because ,of the fact th at theva1i0us game 7 cards5 ofthe game havertheir particular game;pieeesortags.seomred to-the same, it Wi1-LbeappreCiad that loss of such gaine pieces with the resultant distorting of that particular card will be prevenced.
Likewise, instead of employing a game board having a plurality of pins 3 arranged upon its surface, 1 may, if so desired, emp1oy a tray having a pluralit of pockets or compartments therein, intowhich the vari- 01.1s master elements as they are called, may be placed.
Manifesdy, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and su.ch modification as is within the Scope of my olams I consider within the spirit of my in vention.
I daim:
l. A game comprising in combination, a plurality of master elements having certain matter, presented upon the faces there0f, game cards, a plurahty of elements movably connected to said game cards havingmatccr presented rupon their opposite faces corresponding to the matter presented on said masr elemencs anda game board having means thereon for individually retaining the master elements asthey are Called during playing of the game.
2. A game oomprising in combination, a pluralicy of master elements having certain matter presented thereon, gamecards, rings seoured to the upper portions of said 'game cards, tags movab1y engagi11g said rings having matter presented upon the opposite faces thereof corresponding to the matter on said master elements and adapted to be moved from one side of said game card to the opposite side thereof upo1i disp1ay of corresponding matter. on the master e10- ments.
3. A game oomprising in combination, a
' plmality of master elements having certain matter presented thereon, game carde, a plurality of spaced rings connected to said game cards and arranged equidisant throughout the same, tags movably engag ing said rings having matter presented up0n their opposite faces corresponding to the matter on said master elements and adapted to be moved from positions at one.side of the card to positions at the opposite side of the same, and a game board having means thereon for individualiy receiving and retaining said master elements as they are. called during playing of the game.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
BBUCE GREEN DE; VVOOLESN.
