D. BELAIS METHOD OF MAKING FINGER RINGS Filed Nov. 13. 1923 DAV/D BEL/H3 951 A flT/tozm Patented Get. 28, 1924.
DAVID BELAIS, on NEW Yon-K, N. Y. 1
METHOD OF MAKING, FINGER RINGS.
Application filed November 13, 1923. Serial No; 674,432.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, DAVID BELAIs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county and State of New.
York, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Making F inger Rings,
of which the; following is a specification.
Thls invention relates to finger rings and,
particularly, to ring findings, blanks for making rings and methods of making rings. One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive method of making rings.
*Another object of the invention is to provide a method of makingrings that will involve the use of a. minimum amount of material.
Another object of the invention is to provide a blank for use in making rings so constructed that after thevblank has been folded, the edges of the blank to be joined can be readily andquickly positioned in the proper relation for joining or soldering.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with the drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which i Fig. l is a plan view of a blank constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 shows the blank folded to form a ring, and
Fig. 8 shows a finished ring formed from the blanks shown in Figs. "1 and 2.
The invention briefly described involves the use of a single piece blank having an elongated portion adapted to form the band of a ring and portions extending laterally from the elongated portion adapted to form the crown of the. ring. The ends of the blank are so constructed that the edges of the laterally extending portions can be correctly positioned for joining Without the exercise of any particular care or. skill. In the form of the invention shown, the notches or recesses are provided for receiving the outer edges of the laterally extending portions and when these portions are located in the notches or recesses they are correctly positioned for soldering. Furtherdetails of the invention will appear from the following description.
Referring to the drawings, there is illustrated in Fig. 1 a blank having an elongated intermediate portion 10 and portions 11 and 12 extending laterallyffromthe ends of the elongated portion, The laterally extending 1 portions may be of any desired shape or contour but in the form of the; invention shown, these portions are provided with tapered side vedges l3 and 1 i and the extensions 11 and 12are adapted to form a conical crown for a-ringV I i As shown in Fig. 2, to form the crown of the ring, the intermediate. or elongated portion 10 is bentfintoa portion ofacircle.
forming. the band of the ring and the lateral.
extensions 11 a nd 12, are folded transversely;
In order] to insure the correct positioning of the edges 13 and 14: ofthe laterally'extending portions, reeessesorinotches 15 are 'formed in the blank ,at the ends-of. the
elongated portioiilO. As illustrated particularly in ,Fig- 2, the outer edge ll of the extensionllispositioned in'the notch,
15 adjacent the extension 12 and the outer edge 14 of. the extension 12 isposit'ion'ed in the'notch l5formed at the'end of the' edge l3 of'the other lateral extension 11. Itwill thus be seen that the notches or recesses 15 greatly facilitate the'correctv positioning of 1 A the edges to be joined and that the pro-vision of these notches will save much time in the making of the rings and do away with any requirement for special skill or care.
After the blank has been folded or bent to the position shown in Fig. 2, the edges can bere'adily joined by solder or in any other suitable manner.
Although one specific embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described, it will be understoodthat theinvention is capable of-modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangeinent of the various cooperating, parts may be made Without departing. from the spirit or scope of the, invention, as expressed in the following claims. I i
"What I claim is: r "1; A- finger ring blankhaving anuelongated portion adapted to form the band of a ring and laterally extendingportions adapted to form the crown and means for insuring the correct positioning of edges of the blank to be joined whereby the crown portions will register and the band will have the proper size.
2. A finger ring blank having an elongated portion adapted L120 form the band of a ringandlaterally extending portions adapted to form the. crown,;said blank hav ing recessed portions and edges adapted to fit therein, whereby the edges of the blank to be joined will be correctly positioned to cause the crown portions to register and'to insure a fixed size of band.
3. A finger ring blank having an elongated portion adapted to form the band of a ring and laterally extending portions at the ends of the elongated portion adapted to form the crown and means for insuring the correct positioning of edges of the blank to be joined to cause the crown'portio-ns to register and to insure a fixed size of band.
i. A finger ring blank having an elongated, relatively narrow intermediate portion adapted to form the band of a ring,
a laterally extending end portion at each end of the elongated portion, said end portions extending in opposite directions, the blank having oppositely disposed recesses at r the ends, each recess being adapted to readapted to form the crown, bending the elongated portion into a portion of acircle and 'iolding the end portions to form a pocket with the outer edges of the end portions disposed in the recesses.
8. A method of making finger rings which consists in forming a stamped metal blank having an elongated portion adapted to form a band and end portions adapted to form the crown, said end portions having recesses in one edge and having the other edges adapted to fit in said recesses, bending the elongated portion to form a band and folding the end portions into position in which the outer edge of each end portion will fit into the recess of the other end portion.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 5th day of November, 1923. V
' DAVID BELAIS.
