Be it known that l, ARTHUR H. DRUCKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and Stateof Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supervaporizers, of which .the following is a specification.
rlhe present invention relates to a supervaporizer designed for use upon internal vgases from the exhaust manifold to be drawn directly into thev intake manifold, thus the heat of the burnt gas from the ex haust changes the wet, poorly carbureted mixture into a dry vapor which combusts with full eli'iciency when it is ignited by the spark in the explosive chamber of the cylinder. As the motor warms up a thermostatically operated valve of the super-vaporizer is closing and will finally become fully closed whenrthe engine is thoroughly warm. After the passage of the hot exhaust gases into the 4intake manifold is fully stopped, air is taken in through a breather valve and will be heated by this device and drawn in-to the intake manifold, producing an economical combustible mixture. rIhis allows the engine to be started immediately particularly in cold weather and prevents dilution'of the engine oil.
Another important obj ect of the invention is to provide a super-vaporizer of this na-` ture having a simple and elhcient construction, one which is reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, durable, and well adapted for 'l the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.

Figure 6 is an end elevation of an engine with my device attached thereto showing a modification wherein the exhaust manifold is upon the opposite side of the engine to that of the intake manifold.
Referring to the drawing in detail itwill be seen that l designates an exhaust manifold and 2 an intake manifold of any desired construction. The super-vaporizer consists of a casing 3 having one end opened and closeable by a plate 4. plate -5 forms a partition in the casing 3 forming compartments 6 and 7. This partition 5 is provided with an opening 8 and an opening 9 which are preferably disposed adjacent each other.
,A shaft 10 is jonrnalled at one end in the rear wall of the casing 3 and passes centrally IJthrough the partition 5. A plate valve 1l is keyed to the shaft 10 by means of a set screw 12 or in any other suitable manner and is disposed to operate within the compartment 6 for closing the opening 8. This valve 1l is thermostatically operated and a thermo-responsive means 13 is disposed within the compartment 7 and consists of a loi-metal coil preferably brass and steel, other metals however, may be used. One end of the thermo-responsive means is at- .tached to the shaft l0 and the other end suitably attached to the partition 5. A slotted lug 1d is mounted in the partition 5 and receives' the lastmentioned end of the thermo-responsive means and the same is held therein by means of a set screw 15. At ordicompartment 7 This latter means preferably includes a nipple which is threaded through the back wall of the casing 3 and into the opening 9 of the partition 5.
The closed plate 4 is held in engagement with the casing 8 by screws 19 or other means and these screws preferably threadedly engage the partition 5. A breather valve 20 is mounted on the plate 4 so as to communicate with compartment 7 and includes a casing having a spring pressed valve 2l therein.
When the engine upon which this device is located is started the exhaust gases will pass through the communicating means 17 into the compartment 6, through opening 8 and ill compartment 7 and then pass through the communicating means 18 into the intake manifold. The exhaust gases being heated will act upon the thermo-responsive means 13 tending to expand the same and rotate the shaft l0 so as to hold the plate valve 11 over the opening 8. When this opening 8 is completely closed, air will be drawn through the breather valve 20 into compartment 7 and pass through the communicating means i8 into the intake manifold. lt will be noted that the partition 5 is at all times thoroughly heated by the exhaust gasesin compartment 6 and this heat will be imparted to the air passing through compartment 7.
I have, in the present instance, shown and described the preferred embodiment of the super-vaporizer which will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, and it is to be understood that the same are susceptible of modications in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacriticing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention what Ielaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
` 1. A device of the class described including a casing having a pair of compartments formed therein, said compartments. communicating with each other, a thermo-responsive mechanism for closing the communication between the compartments, means for communicating ene compartment with an exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine, and the means for communicating the other compartment with an intake manifold of an internat cem'nustion engine, a breather valve associated with the latter mentioned compartment, and a spring associated with said breather valve and tensioned so as to hold the same closed when the communication between the twe cempartments is open.
2. A device o' the class described including a casing, a partition in the casing forming two compartments therein, said partithe intake manifold of an internal combus-4 tion engine, a breather valve associated with the latter compartment, and a spring associated with the breather valve for normally holding the same closed when the opening in the partition is open and allowing the breather valve to open when said opening in the partition is closed by the thermostatically controlled valve.
3. A. device of the class described includinga casing, a partition in the casing forming two compartments therein, said partition provided with an opening communicatingthese two compartments with each other, a valve disposed within one compartment for closing said opening in said partition, a shaft journalled through the compartment for operation of said valve, a thermo-responsive means in the other compartment for operating said shaft, and a 1breather4 valve associated with the last mentioned compartment, said last mentioned compartment adapted to be communicated with the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine and the other compartment adapted to be communicated with an exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine.
4. A device of the class described including a casing, a partition in the casing forming two compartments therein, one of said compartments adapted to be communicated with the exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine, the other compartment adapted to be communicated with the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine, said partition provided with an opening, a valve in the exhaust compartment adapted to close said opening, a shaft passing through the partition for operation of the valve, thermo-responsive means ofthe shaft within the intake compartment, said means including a bi-metal coil attached at one end to the shaft, a lug passing through the partition, means for attaching the other end of the coil to the lug, said lug projecting into the exhaust compartment acting as a stop for said valve when closed over the opening in the partition, and a breather valve associated with the intake compartment.
