Be it known that I, ELIE Josnrn VER- MEYEN,a subject of the King of the Belgians, residing at 9 Rue Thiers, Choisy-le- Roi, France, have invented a new and useful Continuous-Distillation Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a continuous distillation device, and has for itsobject to provide a device adapted for the continuous production of distillation gasesand for the continuous combustionbeneath the grate of the distillation gases produced.
This invention has also for its object the provision of a continuous distillation device adapted for the production of heat which f `closed by acover and any device may be may be utilized for heating water or for otherk purposes.
This distillation device comprises essentiallyV a body of cylindrical or any other appropriate form, having its base widened and pierced with openings forming holes through which the gases of combustion escape and are conducted to the'chimney.

The base has the form of a truncated cone and rests at its greatest diameter upon the grate N. This widening towards the base is intended to prevent the cinders from slipping into the flues E. The wall of the base A is pierced with openings or holes through which the gases of combustion pass, and are then eliminated by the circular flue E, the collector Gand thechimney F. The dimensions of the perforated portionsy depends upon the size of the device and the kind of stove, boiler, furnace or other heating device to which the distillation furnace is adapted; that is to say the total surface of these holes is to be calculated for each specific application of the invention, slightly greater than the total surface of the openof distillation.

The gases of distillation are'mixed with fresh air introduced through the vfresh air inlet K and pass through the bed of ignited combustible material where they are transformed into carbon-dioxide, thus producing an increase of calories. `In the other cases the conduit C will "serve for carrying the gases of distillation to special apparatus for other uses.
".To ystart'the distillation device,-the inventor ignites the fuel in the container 13 by means of some easily ignited material such as paper and wood, placed upon the grate A before the container B is charged with fuel.
In the drawing, H krepresents the space between two cylindrical walls of the boiler which contains water and into which pass two pipes, J and J for circulating the water contained in the said space after the principle of the thermo-Siphon.
I claim l 1. A continuous distillation device comprising a distillation vessel having a grate, an outwardly flaring frusto-conical lower end on said distillation vessel resting on said grate, a chimney, openings in the outwardly Haring lower end of said distillation vessel communicating with said chimney, and means for leading the gases of distillation from said distillation vessel to a point beneath said grate and for drawing in air for combustion of said gases beneath said grate.

A continuous distillation device comprising a distillation vessel having a grate,` an outwardly flaring frusto-conical loiver end on said distillation vessel resting on said rate, a chimney, openings in the outwardly flaring lower end of said distillation vessel communicating with said chimney, an air inlet beneath said grate, an annular gas inlet surrounding said air inlet, and a 'conduit for leading the gases` ot distillation from said distillation vessel to said air inlet.

A continuous distillation device coniprisin-g a distillation vessel having a grate, an outwardly flaring truste-conical. perforated base on said distillation vessel resting on said grate, an outwardly flaring trusteconical upper end on said distillation vessel, a chimney, an annular flue surrounding said distillation vessel defined vertically by said frusto-conical base and said riistoconical upper end and `communicating with said chimney, a conduit for leading the gases of distillation from said distillation vessel toa point beneath said grate and mea-ns for drawing in air for combustion of said gases beneath said grate.

A. continuo-us distillation device comprising a distillation vessel havingy a grate, a perforated outwardly flaring truste-conical. base :termed upon saidv vessel and resting upon' said grate, a Jfrusto-conical upper end formed upon said vessel, a closed chamber carried by said frusto-c'onical upper end, an annular flue disposedV around said distillation chamber and defined vertically by said truste-conical base and said frustoconical upper end', a trap communicating with saidA annular flue, a chimney communicating with said trap, an annular Water chamber surrounding said grate, distillation vessel and annular flue, circulation pipesv leading to and from said annularl water chamber, an air inlet beneath said gra-te, 'an annular gas inlet surrounding saidv air inlet, andl a conduit leading from said closed chamber to said gas inlet.
