To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HOWARD W. FLEM- V ING, CHARLES A. Rrssnn, and ORRIS K. WEBB, citizens, respectively, of the United States, and residing at San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp Beds, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a form of bed that may be quickly assembled and disassembled, and that may be packed in small space for transportation as on the running board of an automobile.
It is the object of our invention to provide a bed of the character indicated that is light in weight, collapsible into a small compact bundle, strong. and durable, economical to manufacture, quickly assembled and disassembled, and one that will properly sustain bodies placed thereon.

Referring more particularly to the drawing. 11 indicate the two side bars of the frame fitted with end pins 22-2-2, and brace engaging pins 3-3-33. At 4--4 are shown end bars, each bar 4 having an orifice at 5 to receive a pin 2, and having legs 6-6 mounted thereon as shown by hinges 7-7. By this construction the legs 66 fold flat against end bars 4 when not in use. On each leg 6 are pivotally mounted braces 8-8 as at 99, these braces, when in an operative position, engaging pins 3 and 9 respectively as shown whereby to maintain the frame in a rigid position when assembled.
The fabric supporting the weight of the sleepers is composed of light rope 10, woven. together to form a coarse mesh as shown, each intersection being secured against relative movement of the two crossed rope parts by means of metallic clasps 11.

In the form shown, one portion of the rope is woven back and forth laterally as at 12 and formed into side loops 13 proportioned to hold the whole fabric taut from side to side when mounted on side bars 11. The longitudinal portions 14 of the rope are also provided with terminal loops 15, but these loops only approach but do not reach end bars 44.
Attached to the fabric at each end as at 16 are ropes 17. In assembling the bed after the frame is erected with side bars 11 passing through loops 13, one rope 17 is passed alternately around the adjacent end bar 4 and the adjoining loops 15 and finally tied to end bar 4 as shown at 18. The other rope 17 is then passed around the other end bar 4 and through the other end loops 15 and tightened up in such a manner as tohold the fabric taut longitudinally and tied as at 19.
The structure is collapsed by untying the ropes 1'7 and pulling them out of engage- V ment with their respective loops and end pieces, collapsing the frame by disengaging the several braces, separating the end'bars from the side bars and rolling the side bars and fabric up into a bundle. The end bars are then added to the bundle and the whole tied with the ends of the ropes 17.
It may be readily seen from the foregoin that the bed constructed as set forth has all the desirable features set forth. It is not only exceedingly light and strong but provides suflicient resilience to make a comfortable bed, and the fabric will not give unduly so as to roll the occupants to the center of the bed. The resiliency is secured partly by a slight bowing of the side bars 11 when a weight is placed on the fabric.
It should also be pointed out that in this construction the end bars are interchange able. so that no time is lost in selecting a,

In combination, a frame having separable side and end members, a fabric composed of a plurality of flexible elements arranged in spaced parallel relation to each other and provided With terminal. loops, flexible elements attached at one end only to opposite ends of said fabric and adapted to alter nately engage the adjacent end members of said frame and one of said loops and then secured to said end member, a second series of spaced parallel flexible elements arranged transversely of said first elements and forming terminal loops slidably engaging the side members of said frame, and means for securing the tWo sets of elements together at their intersections.
