Description
I. MaGLI l RE.
M olders Flasks.
Patented May 19,1874.
www@ UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
IsAAC MAGUIRE, or ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOLDERS FLASKS.
. 4 Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,03, dated Mii-y19, 1874; application led February 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern A Be it known that I, IsAAC MA GUIRE, of Albany, in the county ot` Albany and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Molding-Flask, ot' which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved molding-flask on the line c c, Fig. 2 5 Fig. 2, a bottom View of the top section or cope of the ilaslr, showing arrangement of slides.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The upper ilaslc section or cope is provided at the bottom part with slide-pieces worked by handles under the cope-plates, so as to project when ramming the sand, separating the cope from the nowel, and withdrawn when taking oft' both dash-sections from the molded sand. l"
In ,the drawing, A represents the bottom ilasl; or nowel, made of one connected piece, with slight upward taper or inclination. The flask-pins a', of the usual shape, extend in vertical direction from f,their fastening-plate, and fit exactly into the cope-plates l), which are Vconstructed with a corresponding vertical recess, which is larger at the top, and allows thereby the easy connection of nowel and cope sections, as shown in Fig-.1.4 The cope-section B of the iiask is made with similar taper or inclination, in contimiation with the lower one, and also ot' one solid piece. Its lower or bottom edge is provided with sliding bands or pieces G, which are guided, by means of slots d, on pins or lugs d. The slides G are thereby thrown slightly forward or drawn back, as required. Handles e ot' the side slides, under the base of the cope-plates, serve to move the slides.
The ends of one or both side pieces may be made to engage the ends of the longer slides, and cause, thereby, their simultaneous moi tion.
',lhe bott-om flask is rammed and prepared in the usual manner for the pattern. The cope is then placed on it, with the slides pushed forward, so as to project to the inside ot the cope. The'sand is then rammed in over the cope-section, then detached `from the bottom section, and turned over for taking oit the followerboard. The molded sand is supported on the projecting part of the slides in such a complete and eil'ective manner that, by careful handling, no dropping or other injury of the saine is possible. rlhe cope is then reset on the nowel; the slides are drawn back both sections of the ilaslr are then detached from the mold, they being, on account oit' their tapering shape, easily raised from the same.
The whole process of preparing the mold is thus made more secure, and may be attended to with a considerable saving ot" time and labor.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire te secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the iaslc-sectionsAB, of the intermediate slides C, the ends and sides being pro vided', respective] y, with straight and oblique slots, and connected with each other so as to be adjusted simultaneously, as de scribed.
' ISAAC MA GUIRE.
