A. RODRIGUEZ ET AL PUMP ASSEMBLY Filed Oct. 8, 1921.
INVENTORS ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 30, 1924.
UNITED STATES ABRAHAM RODRIGUEZ AN'D HENRY GUSTAVSON. OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, AS-
PATENT OFFICE.
SIGNORSTO MILTON G. MOENNING AND DOUGLAS 0. HOWARD, BOTH OF SAN JOSE,
cALIFonNIA.
PUMP ASSEMBLY.
Application filed October 8. 1921. Serial No. 506,498.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ABRAHAM RODRI- onnz and HENRY GUSTAVSON, citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump Assemblies, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of our invention to provide a construction wherein the several bowls of a string forming a part of a deep well centrifugal pump may be quickly and easily separated at any desired point and as quickly and easily reassembled.
The drawing is a vertical transverse sec tion through a-portion of adeepwell centrifugal pump embodying our invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 indicates a pump bowl having a bearing 2 formed integrally therewith and supported by diffusion vanes 3. Bowl 1 is provided with an upper and externally threaded neck 4 and a bottom and interiorly threaded socket 5. These threaded necks and sockets are of the same diameter so that any required number of bowls may be arranged in the stack, and any bowl may be removed if desired and another inserted in its place.
In bowl 1 is formed an impeller chamber I 6, an impeller 7 being shown therein. At 8 is shown a shaft section engaging bearing 2 and extending a distance above the up er edge of bowl 1 and tapped as at 9. e lower end of shaft section 8 is threaded as at 10 to engage the threaded impeller, the
threaded portion passing clear through the impeller and extending a. distance below. the same to engage the tapped portion 9 of the next lower shaft section.
'B means of this construction any bowl in the stack may be quickly and easily decached fromadjacent bowls, the shaft see tion therein detached from the adjoining shaft sections and the whole removed and replaced with another bowl if so desired, or the stack lengthened by the addition of other bowls and shaft sections, or shortened by assembling without the replacing of the removed parts.
This construction also provides a compact and rigid stack easily insertable in and withdrawn from a well bore of slightly larger diameter than the bowls themselves.
It is to be understood, of course, that while we have herein shown and described one particular embodiment of our invention,
changes in form, construction and method of operation may be made within the scope of the appended claims.
We claim Ina centrifugal pump, a shaft section internally threaded at one end to' receive the threaded end of another shaft section and externally threaded at the other end to engage the internally threaded end ofanother shaft section, and an impeller internally threaded to engage said last mentioned externally threaded end of said shaft section, and mounted thereon prior to its engagement with another shaft section.
ABRAHAM RODRIGUEZ. HENRY GUSTAVSON.
