LUNCH KIT.
Application led July 1, 1921. Serial No. 481,840.
To all whom zt may concern.' y
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN CHARsxY, a subject of Russia, residin in the borough of Brooklyn, count of ings, city and State of New York, ave invented a certain new and useful Lunch Kit, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to fitted lunch kits in which may be carried not onl food and beverages, but a service consisting of the necessary table ware.
Some of the objects of the invention are to provide an article of the character described which will be compact in form; which will have great carryin capacity in proportion to its size, in whic the comestibles will be kept in a separate compartment from the service; which may be opened fiat whereby all of the articles carried thereby will be accessible; which is sanitary and ma be readily cleaned; which when closed wil entirely enclose the elements carried thereby, and wherein all of the fixtures will be securely held in position in the device.
Another object of the invention 1s to provide a lunch kit which, when opened, ma be utilized as a table.
further object of the invention is the production of a device, of the character herein described, which is extremely simple in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, and economical to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view to be more fully set forth hereinafter, the invention conslsts in the novel construction, combination of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described in the specification and illustrated in the accomf panying drawings considered together or se arately.
he inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown lin the accompanying drawin The invention w' be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein simlar reference characters are used to designate correspondin parts throughout the several views, an then more specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
,in position, and
In the drawings Flgure 1 is a front elevation of the device, showing the same in closed osition.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of t e same.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3 -3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail section, on an enlarged scale, taken lon the line 4 4 of Flgure 3.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the device in open position.
Figure 6 is a detail sectional view of a portion of the device illustrating the manner 1n which the sandwich box is secured Figure 7 is a section on the line 7-7 of Figure 6.
rlhe invention comprises a bag or case, preferably made of leather or other suitable material, in a form which suggests the well-known portfolio or brief case. It consists o a bottom portion 1, a front portion 2, a rear portion 3, a top portion 4 and securing fiap 5.
The body of the device is divided into a front compartment and a rear compartment as follows:
The end portions 6 of the front or comestibles compartments are somewhat narrower than the bottom portion 1, and said end portions are carried outward in the forms of flaps 7 adapted to be bent over inward to overlap at the center and be secured together as by snap fastenings 8. The end portions 6 are provided with tabs 9, which are adapted to be bent inward when the kit is closed, whereby there will be no corner openings in the said front portion.
The end portions 10 of the rear or service compartment are preferably somewhat narrower than the portions 6, the sum of the widths of the portions 6 and 9 being equal to the width of the bottom portion l. The portions 10 are extended to form flaps 11 which may be folded over and secured in position in the same manner as are the flaps 7 The front iap 5 may be secured to the front portion 2 in any desired manner, as by a lock 12 and buckled straps 13, or in any approved manner.
The inside of the entire apparatus is pref erably covered with a sanitary covering 14 of oil cloth or the like which may be easily washed.
To the inside of the front portion 2 at the bottom edge thereof, and in proximity toA each end thereof is secured by rivets or otherwise, a right angle bracket 15. The free legs of the brackets extend perpendicular to the vposition 2 and the outer ends thereof are provided with angle slots 16 with'which are adapted to cooperate studs 17 projecting from one side of a sandwich, or other food, container 18. The studs are provided with heads, and the container 18 1s positioned by passing the studs downward into the vertical portions of the slots and then moving the box sidewise to engage the studs in the horizontal portions of the slots. The parts are so proportioned that one at least of the side members 6 cannot be folded up against the end of the box while the studs are in, or in line with the vertical portions of the slots 16. The container 18 is provided with a hinged cover 19 which may be secured in closed position by any desired means, or the flaps 7 may be relied upon to hold the cover 19 closed.
The container 18 is not of a width sufficient to occupy all ofthe space on the front compartment 2. A loop 20 is secured to the portion 2, and nested drinking v essels 21 are carried in the said loop. A liquid receptacle, such for example as a vacuum bottle 22 is carried in a loop 23, one end of which is stitched to the front member, and the other end of which is secured in place by means of snap fasteners. .The loop may carry a plurality of snap fastener members whereby bottles of different sizes may be carried.
Secured to the center of the inside of the back member is a loop arrangement 24 by means of which plates and napkins may .be secured in position. The back also carries loops 25 and 26 for carrying cutlery and condiment boxes.
The top portion 4 is equipped with a carrying handle 25, but it is to be understood that any other carrying means may be provided.
When the device is to be used, it is spread out upon the ground, as shown in Figure 5. The entire device, especially the flaps 5 7, and 11 and the front portion 2 and the top 4 are used as a table, the sanitary lining 14 being uppermost. When the meal is finished and the dishes washed, the lining may also be easily washed whereby the entire device may be kept in sweet, clean and sanitary condition.
It is obvious from the foregoing disclosure and descri tion that the device is a unique combined) lunch kit and table.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, 'I have described the rinciple of my invention together with t e apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire it understood that my invention is not confined to the particular form of apparatus herein shown and described, the same being merely illustrative, and that4 the invention can be carried out 1n other ways' without departing from the spirit of my invention, and, therefore, I claim broadly the right to employ all equivalent instrumentalities coming Within the scope of the appended claims, and by means of which objects of my invention are attained, and the new results accomplished, as herein set forth, as it is obvious that the particular embodiment herein fshown and described is only one of many that can be employed to attain these objects and accomplish these results.
