IMPROVEMENT IN CAM-CYLINDERS FOR KNITTING-MACHINEiS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 150,966, dated May 19, 1574; application filed April 28, 1874.
To all Iwhom. it may concern:
Beit known that I, ROBERT D. LEECH, of New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Knit ting- Machines, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to provide an improved reversible cam-cylinder for a knitting-machine, and also to hold together the different cylinders in a better and more convenient manner than done heretofore. My invention consists in a cam-cy1inder constructed in sections, having a flange at the top, which fits into an annular groove in the needlecylinder, and placed inside of an encircling cylinder, through which motion is given to the cameylinder. The needle cylinder, being encircled by the sections of the cam-cylinder, is held to the bed-plate of the machine by means of screws from underneath. The encircling cylinder holds the sections of the cam-cylinder against the needle cylinder, and is held in place by aid of the outer flange of the sectional cam-cylinder. A slot is cut in the side and near to the top of the encircling cylinder. A11 opening is left at the top and in the center of this slot. To opposite sides of this opening are fastened arms of the yarn-carrier. lo the outside ofthe cam-cylinder is fastened a movable stud for adjusting the stitch-cam, said stud operating back and forth in the slot of the encircling cylinder, thus regulating the relative position of the yarn-carrier and the needle-operating cams.
In order to more fully describe my inven tion, I refer to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this speciiieation.

D is the encircling cylinder. e is the inside flange of the ea1ncylinder, fitting into the annular groove f in the needle-cylinder. g g are screws holding the cam-cylinder to the bedplate II. c' is the outer flange of the sectional cam-cylinder. Having thus described my invention, I claim- A cam-cylinder in sections, provided with flanges e and t', in combination with the needle-cylinder B, the encircling cylinder D, provided with the slot J and opening 7s, the bedplate H, and screws g, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
