Be it known that we, EDWARD NIEDERMAN and Mourns J. KmNsnv, both citizens of the United States, and residents, respectively, of Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, and the city of New York, Woodhaven, borough of. Queens. in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Electric Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to electric distributing boxes, and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein the elec tric cable is firmly clamped in position against accidental disengagement or loosening, and with the parts so arranged as to permit a quick and easy disengagement manually.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a box with bodily removable sections whereby the electric cables may be fitted in the box laterally and then clamped rigidly against movement so that a comparatively short end may be readily used.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the outer rim of the box and 2 the body, said outer rim 1 being cut at a number of points for receiving the various locking plates 3, and the body 2 is notched at the same number of points as the rim 1 is out forming the sockets 4. The sockets 4 merge into square shoulders 5 against which the ends of the sections 3 press, or may press if the parts are drawn close enough together. By tightening up the screws 12 and 13 the section 3 is clamped firmly against the cable 4'." or against the shoulders 5 as the case may be. When it is desired to move any section 8 the respective screws 12 and I 13 in thatsection are loosened and the sec tion moved downwardly from the position shown in Figure 2 until the screw heads have been disengaged whereupon the section may be moved to any point desired and the cable 1" removed. This construction also permits the cable or conduit 4 to be bodily applied or removed from the side of the box whereby short ends of cables may be readily used instead of several feet as now practiced.
The interior shape of the box may be arranged as desired, but to produce an even thickness throughout a depression 14 is provided on one face of the box and a plurality of depressions 15 on the opposite side. As shown in Figure 3 a thickened tubular member 16 is provided which projects into the depression 15 for receiving retaining screws 17.
In operation when applying the box the various cables or conduits 4 may be ex tending loosely through the hole in which the box is to be placed and the box may be readily connected thereto and'also secured to the wall, ceiling or other support, as for instance in the manner indicated in dotted lines in Figure 3. v
In Figure 4 a slightly modified form of the invention is disclosed inwhich the socket 18 is arranged as part of a circle and the removable section as an arc-shaped contact surface 20' fo-rclamping the Wire or conductor in place.
In Figures 5 and 6 a further modified 5 form oft-he invention is shown in Which the removable section 21 is held pivotally in place by the screws 22 so as to be swung downwardly out of the Way or back into position.
