COMBINATION ENTRY FORM FOR GAMES 0R CONTESTS.
Application filed December 8, 1922.
'combinations of selections as winners in various contests which are to take place, the formbeing arranged to facilitate and simplify the recording of the selections and the calculation and recording of the number of combinations of winners in the various contests from among the recorded entries of selections as possible winners.
The improved form is an adjunct to the playing of what is in effect a. game of preselection, or guessing, of the winners inV future contests.` If a series of foot races or horse races are to be held, for example, the players in the game of preselectionendeavor to choose the winners in all the races. The player who guesses the greatest numg ber of` winners in the races wins the gaine.
In such gaine, the vvarious players may eac-h have as many guess-es as desired at the list of winners in the series of contests to be held, account being talren of the number of guesses, or total number of combinations of the entries in each contest selected by the player as possible' winners in such contest. With a series of six or seven contests to be held and sa;r five or six contestants in each..
the possible combinations yof Winners in all` the contests will amount to many thousands.
It has previously been the custom for the players to record on a separate slip each combination of winners selected for a series of contests to be held. Thus to play, say, l
ficulty is overcome, and any desired numberv of combinations of winners may be revcorded, in a very simple manner, on a. single sheet', from which the total of combinations Serial No. 605,566.
played7 may be readily calculated and recorded on the. sheet.
The invention, generally speaking, comprises the provision of a sheet or form so arranged, having such a physical' structure and combination of spaces and designating words or other indicia, as to enable the results referred to to be achieved.
The objects of the invention consist in the provision of anpimproved form or sheet of the character and for the purposes referred to. Other objects will appear more fully hereinafter in the following specification and be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In order that the invention may be more clearly understood attention is hereby directed to the accompanying drawing forming part of this application and illustrating one embodiment of the invention. In the drawing the figure is a top plan view of a forni or sheet comprising the invention.
Referring to the drawing, the4 sheet l is preferably made out in duplicate or triplicate, a sheet made out in triplicate being shown in the drawing, comprising the top portion la, a` portion lb folded under the same, and a portion l under that. Por-v tion lb is folded over portion 1 along `a perforated line 2a. Portion lEL may be folded along a perforated line (not shown) at the top edge of this portion indicated at Y 2" which divides Aportion la from portion 10. lVhen entries are written on the top able duplicating composition on the under sides of portions 1fL and 1b. lSuch coating is indicated at'f and 3b in the drawing,
portion la' the same will be duplicated on portions l" and lc as by providing asuity corner portions of portions lafand y1b ofthe sheet being shown as turned `over in order that the coating referred to maybe shown.
Description of the portion la only need be given since the. underlying portions 1b and lc are rduplicates of portion la. ,Portion la is provided with a plurality of contest spaces such 'as the columns ta, 4:", 4c, etc., seven such spaces or columns being in? dicated in the drawing corresponding'to seven races, or other contests which are to l take place. These contest spaces or columns are designated by suitable words or indi-f cia such as the words First contest,
Second contest,7 Third contest, etc.` at
the heads of the columns. v Space is provided within each of the contest spaces for the recording of the names of a plurality of intending contestants in such contests. Thus in the forni shown in the drawing" each of the contest columns is divided by horizontalv lines 5 into spaces in which various names may be written, numerals such as the numerals l to 7 indicated at the left of the sheet in the drawing, between the various horizontal lines, preferably being provided to indicate the number of contestants.
A player may select only one list of winners in the contests to be held in which case he writes onename in each of the contest spaces or columns l, 4b, etc. Thus he may regard as his judgment of the probab-le winners in the seven contests, the horses or other contestants indicated in the drawing in the lirst horizontal space as Alnioner, Ada M., litlabel, Jack, U. S., France and Prince.
0r he may wishto preselect various combinations of possible winners. A second combination would be made by substituting` Bob for Almoner inthe first contest while leaving the entries in the other contests the saine as the combination first indicated. Under the method previously used a second form would have had to be written out in which the naine Bob was given for the first contest and the names Ada M., Mabel, etc., previously referred to, written for his choices in the second and ensuing` contests. ln accordance with niy invention all such data is recorded on the one sheet.
Thus in the form shown in the drawing` both Almoner and Bob are recorded for the first contest, both Jaclr and Jule for thefourth, and bot-h France and Bettina for the sixth. lilith entries so recorded the player has selected eight different combinations of contestants as may be seen by calculation. Thus in one combination Jule in the fourth contest is selected with all of the entrics'in which the numeral 2 is written-by the player or by some other person to indicate that two entries in the first columnvv` are selected to'win. Tn the similar space 6b at thebottom of the second contest column the nuineral l is' recorded, since only one contestant is selected in this contest, similar spaces being provided, as indicated in the drawing,
for the other contest columns. Suitable printed words or other indicia are provided iii association or alignment with the spaces 6a and Gl etc., to indicate the purpose of the spaces, such indicia being indicated in the drawing at 7, where the words Number of entries in each contest selected to win are indicated as printed,
At a suitable point on the form such as at the bottom of each portion such as ll of the form another small space is provided such as the rectangular space indicated at 8. This space is to receive aiigure indicating the total number ofr combinations of possible winners selected or played by the player, the'purliose'of this space bein'g'indicated by suitable words or indicia such as the words indicated at 9 Total of combina tions.7
It will be evident that the total'of combi# nations may be arrived at very quickly by multiplying together the-figures inall ofthe small spaces 6a, 6", etc. In the example given inthe drawingthe figures-referred to multiply together tomalre eight, asis indicated.-
A. player having filled out a form, as indicated, the three portions thereof may be torn apart along the perforated lines, the original kept by the player, the copies of the forms made out by thevarious players being retained by some person as a record of the playsmade until after the contests have talren place. In the case'of the form illustrated the player will win the game, or be one of the winners, if any one of his eight combinations selected proves to be the correct list of the winners in all of the seven contests. If no player has selected, in any of his combinations, all of the winners in the' various contests, the winner of the game will be "the player who has selectedv the great estnumber of winners inth'evario-us contests.
It will be evidenty that the' forindescribed greatly simplifies the recording of' any numberof combinations of contestants-inthe vae rious contests and enables the calculation and recording of thel number of combinations selected to be made in anr exceedingly simple manner.
It will be understood that the invention is not limited strictly to' the details of construction which have been shown, but that the same is as broad asis indicated by the accompanying claims.
It should particularlyV be noted that, as stated above, tlieform illustratedl talrestlie place'of as many separate sheets as the combinations played, in accordance with the prior procedure. Thus, in the" example given, underv the old procedure, one sheetl would give the; names Almoner, Ada M., Mabel, JaclQfU. 5;, France, and Prince, as selections in the seven contents; the second sheet. would contain the names Almoner, Ada M., Mabel, Jack, U. S., Battina and Prince; the third, the names Almoner, Ada M., Mable, Jule, U. S., France, and Prince; the fourth, Almoner, Ada M., Mabel, Jule, U. S., Bettina, and Prince; and the fifth to eighth, respectively, Would contain the same names as the firstto fourth sheets, respectively, eXcept that the name Bob Would appear instead of the name Almoner in each instance.
