PUMP ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 31, 1923. Serial No. 683,706.
To all whom it mdycmwern: Be it known thatI, LEONARD LooP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tulsa,
in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Pump Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pump attach ments, the primary object of the invention being to provide novel means adapted to operate to grip the sucker rod and support the same against movement, should the sucker rod become broken at a point above the attachment.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will not interfere with the operation of the sucker rod to restrict its movement while the pump is in operation.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and gal aimed, it being understood that. changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from thelspirit of the invention.

sucker rod is ofrthe usual construction and includes a plurality of sections by means of the couplings 7.
A tapered section 8 is employed in connection with the device forming the essence of this invention, and as shown, has its ends positioned in the. couplings-7.
The device includes an elongated body portion indicated at 4 formed with a suitable bore to accommodate the tapered section -8, the device being designed to normally lie connected at the lower end of the tapered 'section 8 to allow the sucker rod to move freely therethrough to accomplish its purpose.
Formed in one Wall of the elongated body roller 9, which roller is provided with an enlarged opening 10 through which the shaft 11 extends, the shaft having its ends positioned in suitable openings formed in the Walls of the opening in which the roller moves. I
In order that fluid may pass upwardly between the bodyportion 4 and tapered section 8, an opening 12 is formed in the bodyportion and disposed adjacent to the lower edge thereof. It will be noted that the opening 12 is formed on the flat side of the body 4:, and thereby afl'ords communication between the interior of the body portion 4 and the space between the body portion 4 and tube in which it moves. From the foregoing it will be obvious that should the sucker rod above the body portion 4 become broken, the body portiondue to its frictional contact with the inner wall of the tubing 5, moves slowly downwardly, while the weight of the falling sucker rod will be sufficient to move the enlarged end of the tapered section 8 into close engagement with the roller 9, causing a binding action to be set up between the roller 9 and tapered sec tion, to the end that the sucker rod will be, held against movement to a point within the well tubing to damage the elements 'of the pump, and at the same time permit the sucker rod to be readily and easily removed v lateral movement of the roller with respect to the tapered section over which the same moves.
I claim.: 1. In a device of the character described,
well tubing, a sucker rod including a tapered section adapted to move within the tubing, a body portion mounted on the fapered section and having a lateral opening, a roller supported by the body portion and having a peripheral groove engaging the tapered section, and said tapered section adapted to move the roller to set up a binding action between the well tubing and tapered section and restrict movement of the sucker rod. p I
