H. ADERER DENTAL CLASP Filed De. 6, 1923 Patented Sept. 9, 1924.
UNITED STATES HUGO ADERER, or EAST ORANGE, Naw JERSEY.
. DENTAL CLASP.
Application IedDecembei 6, '1923. Serial No. 679,010.
To all 'whom itmay conce/m:
Be it known that I, HUGO ADERER, a citizenvof the United States of America, residing at 82 South Parkway, `East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain newA and useful Improvements in Dental Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relatesto the construction of a ready made dental clasp.
Some of the object-s of my invention are: first, the construction of a ready made clasp of two parts, the parts being joined together so that theclasp when delivered tol the den'- tst is ready for use; second, the .construction of a clasp having a shoulder on the band and a shoulder on the tail-piece, these shoulders equalizing the stress between the two' parts; third, the construction of a clasp having a shoulder on the band co-operating with a shoulder on the tail-piece in such manner that the upward and downward movement o-f these parts with respect to each other may be adjusted and also rthat the play between the tail-piece and the band may be adjusted; and, fourth, vto make the connecting parts of the band and tail-piece of the clasp integral and thus to avoid soldering an of the parts.
Vith these and other objects in view, an embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a top plan view; e
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1; f
Figure 4 is a plan view of the band flattened out and before the shoulder is formed thereon;
Fi re 5 is a plan view of the tail-p-iece before the shoulder has been formed thereon;
Figure 6 is a sideelevation showing the clasp attachedv to the natural teeth, said clasp being connected with an artificial denture; i p
Figure 7 is a side elevation showing a modified form of tail-piece and an unslit band; and
Figure 8 isa side elevation showing another modied form of tail-piece and an unslit band.
My clasp may be made of any suitable material, such as gold clasp metal, and comprises a band l adapted to partially encircle g tooth. This band, in the form shown in Figures l, 2, 3, 4, and 6,'has slits@ forming ngers 3, while the band shown in Figures 7 and 8 is not slit. Thebandmay have a cusp a as an integral part thereof. Thezband is attached to the tail-piece 5 by means `of a hook 6 made by extending outward vrfrom the 'plane of the band and then bending yupward the entension of the 4band shown in Figurefl substantially parallel with the plane of the band. The upper end. of the hook may be split, as indicated at 7, to fasten' the band and tail-piece together after the tail-piece having one end bent at lsubstantially a right angleto the plane of the tail-piece yto form a shoulder Schas been placed over the hook, the hoolrfpassing vthrough the opening 9 in the :tailpiece.
The lvertical movement may be regulated by the :depth of .the split as illustrated in Figure 3. This khook maybe placed at different angles with respect to the plane of the band, as illustrated in `Figure""2,
The strength lof the tailfpiece may be i increased by a re-info-rcement, as indicated at 5a. Iii-Figurer?, the tail-piece is shown without the re-inforcement A5a andthe' band is not slit. ln Figure 8,- the tail-'pieceforms a casing or covering for the hook. This casing prevents the rubber in which the tailpieoe may be embedded from flowin into the attachment and interfering wit p the movementbetween the tail-piece 'and the band.
In Figure 6 the use of my clasp isillustrated. Natural teeth 10 are shownl having Va clasp surrounding one of them, and with the tail-piece of the clasp inserted in an' artificial denture 'll having the usual false teeth l2.
It will be evident from the description given that this connection allows the band and the tail-piece to be raised or lowered with respect to eachother and that the connectionalso allows for angular, lateral, and rockingy movement between the articial denture and the bandy of the clasp.
Having `described my invention what I" .claim and desire to protect by Letters Patentv 1s f with tail-piece engaging means, said tail- 'i n l. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece,`said band having integral therebe inserted and means te preventthe separation of thestail-pieee1 and the band,
2. A dental clasp comprising a band and .ofthe'tail-piece and the band.l
3. 'A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, said band having integral therewith tail-piece engaging means, said means being adjustable as to the angle between said. means and said band, said tail-piece having one end thereof at an angle to the -planeof saidtail-pieee, said tail-piece having an opening therein through which said tail-piece engaging means is adapted to be inserted yand means to prevent the separa- 4tien of the tailfpieee and the band.
4. A*,le1-1'-alil elaspfoomprising a band and a, tailvpieee, said band having integral therewith tail-piece engaging means, said means being .adjustable as to the angle between said means and said band, said tail-piece having one end thereof at an angle to the plane of said y,tail-piece, said tailepiece having an Qpening'therein through which saidv tailpieee engaging means is adapted to be in- .ggrl and means to prevent the separation .of the tail-piece and the band, said last named means being adjustable to vary the upward and downward movement between the band and the tail-piece= 5 Avdentalelasp oomprisinga and a taihpieee, said band having tail-piece engaging means thereon, said means extending ont` ward from said band and then upward substantially parallel with the plane of the bandi, said tail-piece having an opening therein through which said engaging means is adapted toghe inserted to form a connection between said band and said tail-piece whereby vertical, lateral, angular, and rooking movement between said band and said tail-.piece are obtained and means to prevent the separation of the tailpieee Iand V4the band. Y
6. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, said band having integral therewith tail-piece engaging means, said tailpieee having an end thereof at substantially a right angle to the plane of said tail-piece, said tail-piece having an opening therein through which said tailepieee engaging means is adapted to be inserted andineans to prevent the. separation of the tail-piece and the band.
7. AA dental clasp. comprising a band and;
a ta-ilpi eoe, saidband having integral therewith tail-piece engaging ymeans, said ltailpieoe having an end thereof at substantially a right angle to the plane of said tail-piene,
said tail-,piege having an opening therein through which said tail-piece engaging means is adapted to be inserted, andiaeasing on one end of said tail-piece to be placed
