Be it known that I, JAMES A. IVALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lorna, in the county of Coles and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seed-Corn Shellers, of which the following is a specification. y

This invention relates to improvements in corn shellers. y

The primary object of the invention is the provision vof an improved device of novel construction, adapted for use in connection with the shelling of seed corn.

A further object ofv he invention is Vthe provision of a corn sheller, preferably of metallic construction, having the parts thereof constructed of standard materials, in an economical and durable manner.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description.

In the drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views;

Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved corn Sheller.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the improved corn Sheller, showing the manner in which the same is used in connection with a receptacle, for shelling of seed corn.

Figure 3 is a fragmentary cross sectional view, showing the manner in which the details of the improved corn Sheller are relatively assembled.

Figure 4 is an end elevation of the improved corn sheller.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of the improved corn Sheller, the letter A designates the improved Sheller adapted for use in connection with a receptacle B. The improved Sheller A preferably comprises a supporting frame portion C, and a seed engaging arrangement D.

The frame C is preferably of sheet metal and bent in channel shape, being preferably U-shaped in crosssection so as to prdvide a relatively flat floor portion 10, having the upstanding legs 12 and 13 upon the sides thereof. The extreme upper edges of the legs 12 and 13 are provided with the flanged over grooves 14 and 15 respectively, which are so bent as to provide pockets 16 facing face the bottom or loor 10.

Thus, thel bars 19 are arranged transversely of the channel member C andfupwardly of the floor 10 thereof from flange 14 to ange 15. As can readily be seen from Figure 3 of the drawings, the crimps 22 are disposed in the flanges. 14 and 15 of the channel member C, in order to maintain the connecting ends of the bar 19 therein.

In operation, the seed corn sheller is' disposed in a container B, which is ordinarily v provided for reception of shelled corn, in its angular position upon the inside of the container, with one end resting upon the Hoor 24 of the container and extending upwardly and in an inclined relation` to rest upon the top edge25 thereof. The person desiring to shell corn from theears, merely places i the ears so that the seeds thereof are in engagement with the concaved sides of the parallel bars 19, and by drawing upwardly or reciprocating the ear over the device D, f. the grains or seeds of the ear will become dislodged and vfall intermediate the 4bars onto the oor 10 of the channel. Due to the inclined position of the floor 10, the grains or seeds will naturally fall upon the bottom 24 or inside of the container B.

size, and arrangement of parts of the form of the improved seed corn sheller herein shown and described Without departing` from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims.

I claim:

l. A corn Sheller comprising a channel shaped member of sheet metal bent in substantially U-shaped manner to provide out-` standing legs, and a seed engaging device including spaced bars a'fiiXed to and extend` ing transversely between the free ends of said outstanding legs.

A shelling device comprising a substantially U-shaped channel frame, and bars rigidly aflixed at their ends in the side marginal portions of said frame, said bars beingconcavo-conveX as to their length and so aiiixed to said frame that the convex sides thereof face inwardly of the pocket of said U-shaped channel frame.
