Be it known that HARRY Hlnsoii, a citizen ot the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Containers, of which the following is a speciication.
This invention relates to dispensing containers and more particularly to dispensing` containers Jfor cereals or the like.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a device of a character mentioned which is capable of dispensing the contents ot the same upon the operation of a manipulating portion, and means for automatically agitat-ing the contents oft' said container, thereby preventing the contents from clogging and permitting` the positive flow of the same through the discharge end of the container.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a plurality of dispensing containers capable of being attached to a sup port whereby the same may be used as a cereal set for household use.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a dispensing container including a novel filling means therefor and a discharge valve, the latter coacting with the former, so as to normally hold the container in a dust-proof condition.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a dispensing container which is simple of construction, cheap to manufacture, easy of operation and the interior of which is accessible for cleaning purposes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularlyl pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying` drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a plurality of containers arranged 'for use as a cereal set.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, the numeral 5 designates my improved dispensing container, and in Figure 1 a plurality of the same have been shown in use as a cereal set, supported by means of a clip 6 carried by the container 5, for engagement with a bracket A. The bracket A in turn is secured to a wall or other suitable structure. It is to be understood that the containers may be supported individually as well as in sets.
Each of the containers 5 includes a shell member 7 tapering toward the discharge end thereof so as to form a hopper 8. The discharge end is provided with an opening, the walls oi' which are beveled to form 'a valve seat 9. The shell member 7 is provided with a rounded top 10, the said top having a portion of the same cut-away so as to form a filling opening 11. At the top of the shell member 7 there is formed a bead 12, and crimped about said bead is a portion 13 of the cover 14. The cover 14 fits snugly over the top 10 of the shell member 7 and is provided with an opening 15 adapt-- ed to register with the opening 11 in the top 10 when it is desired to lill the container. The top 10 is further provided with a boss 16 which forms a bearing for the cover 14 thereby allowing the same to be revolved for bringing the openings 11 and 15 into and out of registration.
Arranged Within and extending above the shell member 7 is a rod 17 the same having a relatively flat portion 18 and a screw por tion 19. Formed on the end of the portion 18 is a valve head 2O adapted to co-act with the seat 9. The valve head 2O is stepped as at 21 and it co-acts with the discharge opening for regulating the How through said opening. The screw portion 19 has its bearing in the boss 16 and is provided with a manipulating portion 22. The manipulating portion 22 may either be bent from the rod 17 or the rod may receive a knob should the same be desired.
lIn operation, the rod 17 is given a turn by means ot the manipulating portion 22. This will unseat the valve head 20 from the seat 9 thereby permitting the contents of the container to be discharged. It will be noted that the size of the opening may be regulated by the turning movement given the core. By reason of the step portion of the valve head it will be further understood that the relatively iiat portion 18 of the rod serves to agitate the contents duringr the turning operation thereof, thereby loosening the lycontents within the-container for permitting the positive flow of itsV contents.

A dispensing Container Comprising-a shell member whose side walls are curved inwardlytoward the bot-tom and terminate to form a beveled valve seat, an agitator eX- tending the length of said shell member, and twisted at a point adjacent one end of the same to form a screw portion for oo-aotion with the walls of an opening formed in the top of said shell member, a manipulating port-ion formed on one end of said agitator and extending beyond the topv of the shell member, a head formed on the end of said agitator, an annular beveled portion formed on said head for (3o-action with said beveled valve seat whereby to Close the opening de- 'HARRY HIRsoH.
