Be it known that l, ALFRED llanera?l a citizen of the United States, and a resident ofGlobe, in the county `of Gila and State of Arizona, have invented a new and ImprovedLighting Fixture, of which the'following is a full, clear, and exact description. i
This invention relates to improvements in lighting fixtures, and has particularreference to a portable lamp stand.
An object of the invention is `to provide an improved lamp stand and fixture ofsucli construction that the same may be supported upon a table, suspended from a ceiling, or hung upon a wall, thus making it possible to have the device conveniently located in any desired position. j
The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detail description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea. In the drawing- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly broken away and shown in section, of the lighting fixture constructed in accordance `with the invention; i
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section ou the line 43--3'yot` Figure 1; f
Figure i is a section on the line 'aL-4 of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is a plan view of a clamp utilized in supporting the fixture on a wall.
Referring `more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the numeral 6 indicates a base of the fixture which may be utilized to support the same upon a table.`
Extending upwardly from the base 6 is a tubular standard 7 the upper extremity of which has secured thereto an eye member 8 which may be engaged with a hook or other device to suspend the fixture from the ceiling.
An upper bracket member 9 is slidably mounted upon the standard 7 so as to be adjustable thereon and secured in its adjustedv positions by means of a set screw or other fastening device 10. A portion of the bracket member 9 extending on one sidevof the standard 7 is provided with a head 11 having a longitudinal slot 12 therein extending to the outer exremity of said head for receiving one end of a clamping member 13 formed of a flatpiece of suitable material. Said end of the clamp 13 is provided therein with a longitudinal slot Mwfor receiving `a bolt 15 which extends transversely through the head 11 and which'lias the wing nuts 16 threaded thereon for the purpose of securing they clamp in adjusted position. The
outer extremity of theclamp 13 is bent to provide the curved gripping portions 17 degned to engage the ordinary picture moulding 18for the ypurpose ofsupporting the fixture on a wall. By making the clamp 13 adjustable with respect to the head 11 it will be apparent that the fixture may be supported in a vertical positionl with ythe edge of the base 6 in engagement with the wall. regardless of any irregularities in said Wall.
A portion of the bracket member 9 on the opposite side of the standard '7 from the head 11 is provided with the usual incandescent lamp socket 19 having a connection 2O at its inner'end through which extends a lamp cord *21, one end of which is connected to any suitable `form of terminal 22, preferablyuvsecured centrally of the ceiling of a room, the cord being of sufhcient length to vpermit of the fixture being moved to any convenient'place aboutthe room.
vThe lamp cord 21 in addition to being connected to the` socketk 19 is extended rextending into said bracketand engage-d by a set screw 30utilized in securing said supporting member in position.
The supporting member furtherfincludes a pair of arms 31 arranged in spaced parallel relation and designed to receive` therebetween a portion of a lamp socket 23 which is pivotally mounted between said arms by means of the vscrews 32 whereby to enable the socket 23 to be swung abouta horizontal pivot to various angular positions with respect to the vertical. f y ,y
` What is claimed is:y
1. In la portable lamp fixture, a basek for supporting/the fixture on a table or other support and capable of engagement With a Wall, a standard extending from said base, a lamp carrying bracket vadjustable longitudinally of said standard and having a bifurcated head at one end, a moulding en gaging ola-mp adjustably mounted in the biurcated end of said head and having mould ing engaging portions at its free extremity, and means extending transversely through said head and said clamp `for securing the latter in adjusted positions in said head.
2. In a portable lamp ixture, a ybase capable of engagement with a Wall, a standard extending from said base, brackets adjustfor pivotally supporting one of said lamp sockets with respect to its associated bracket, a connection also carried by one of said brackets, and av conductor extending through said connection and connected to said sockets.
