ATTACHMENT DEVICE.
Application Itiled January 11, 1921. Serial No. 438,589.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HARRY BEnnow, a citizen of the United States, residin at New York, county and State of NewY ork, have invented certain new `and useful Improvements in Attachment Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment device lfor cleaning mops and brushes and lprimarily aims to provide a medium for detaching such mops and brushes readil and, which at the time when attached, will maintain a firm and rigid handle.
Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawing, representing by way of example a practical embodiment of the invention, is a side elevationl of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a sectional side elevation of the improvement and Figure 3` is a crosssectional view on the line 3 3 of- Fig. 1; Fig. 4 shows both parts of the joint separately, the slotted tube as a side elevation and the other part, containing the pressure coil, as a sectional view; Fig. 5 finally repreents a perspective view of the slotted tu e.
As illustrated in Figure 1 an object in the form of a cleaningmo is held by a wire rope 2 secured with its ree ends within the smooth end of tube 3 which at its other end is provided with a slot 4 having an extension 5 at right angle with slot 4 and the further extension 6 bein parallel with yslot 4, the slots 4, 5 and 6 t erefore forming a kind of hook like incision into tube 3. A similar system of slots 7, 8 and 9 are provided diametrically opposite. to slots 4, 5 and 6, with the difference however that slot 8 runs in the opposite, direction from that of slot 5 and that conse uently also slot 9 is located oppositel to s ot 6. Tube 10 is bent at approximately its middle and aiiixed to the end 14 of handle 12. A pin 13 is rigidly secured within tube 10 at a distance` which corresponds approximately one half of the length of slot 4. Between the end 14 of handle 12 and pin .13 within the tube 10 there is a plate 15 movably4 arranged, a spring 16 being furthermore interposed between said plate 15 and end 14 of handle 12.
In case I do not use the cleaning device I detach' tube 3 with lthe mop proper from the handle and store each part in any manner convenient to me; if I want to use the device I slip'tube 10 over tube 3 which fits telescopically into the former, and as pin 13 enters the slots 4 and 7 it is obvious that fromA this moment the rim 17 of tube 3 presses late 15 against spring 16 which recoilst ereby. As soon as pin 13 has passed the full length of slots 4 and 7 the handle 12, or tube 10, respectively, is turned byY a twist of the hand to pass pin 13 through slots 5 and 8 andl after they are passed spring 16 extends again to press pin 13 against the e-nds of slots 6 and 9. It is obvlous therefore that tube 3 is held by three diiferent means to tube 10, by the wall of tube 10, by the rear ends of the bayonet slots 6 and 8, which spring 16 presses a ainst pin 13, and by the plate 15, same eing pressed against rim 17 of tube 3 by spring 16.
Having now I claim is:
1. An attachment device of the character as described, consisting of a metal tube having at one end diametrically opposite to each other two slots, having their hook sha ed ends running in opposite directions, an at the other end the ends of a wire rope rigidl secured therein, another tube telescopical y fittin over the tube referred to above,
in rigi y secured within the latter tube, a andle secured to same, an annular late movably arranged within said tube be ind the pin, and a spring interposed between said plate and the handle.
2. As a new article of manufacture an attachment device of the character as described, consisting of a metal tube having at one end diametrically opposite to eac other two slots having their hook shaped ends running in opposite directions, and at the other the ends of a wire rope rigidly secured therein, another tube telescopically fitting over the tube referred' to above, a pin rigidly secured within the latter tube adapted to enter the ends of the aforesaid hooks, a handle secured to aforesaid tube, an annular late movably arranged within said tube be ind the pin, and a spring interposed between said late and the handle..
