UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK TIEMAN N, OF OBDWAY, COLORADO.
WEEDING HOE.
Application filed February 3, 1923, Serial No. 616,655.
1 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK T'IEMANN, a citizenof the United States, residing at Ordway, in the countyof Crowley and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in WVeeding Hoes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to weeding hoes, and has forthe primary object thereof, the rovision ofsuch an article that may be e ectively employed for removing weeds and the like from gardens in a' simple and expeditious manner.
A further object of my invention, is the provision of such a weeding hoe that is of substantially simple construction, and coinparatively easy of manufacture, the same be-' ing readily adapted for attachment upon one end of the wooden handle.
The nature and advantages of the inven- 'tion will be better understood when the fol-' lowing detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction,
claimed. i
I In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1- is aperspective view of the tion, the same being shown as secured to one end of ahandle.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal cross sectional view thereof, and J Figure 3- is a View similar" to Figure 1, of a slightly modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the hoe consists of a single member comprising a wedge shaped socket '5 adapted to be secured to one end of a wooden handle A ture.
as at 6. Formed upon the front end of this socket and at opposite sides thereof are forwardly extending outwardly convergent arms 7 connected at their front ends by an integral cross strip 8. The upper and lower edges of the form of invention shown in Figures 1 and 2,'are arcuate-shaped, and are provided 'with knife-like cutting edges 9, it being at'once apparent that the tool may be inverted for employing the opposite knife edge when the other one becomes dull or otherwise impaired.
In the modification, bottom edge 9 of the crossstrip 8 is of arcuate form and sharpened, and in view of the above description; it is believed thatthe advantages and operation of a tool of this, character will be readily appreciated by. those skilled in the art, and although I have herein shown and "described the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as claimed c Having thus described the invention, what I claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
A hoe blade formed from a strip of metal having an intermediate plane portion provided with a curved cutting edge, the ends. of the intermediateportion -merging into converging side portions, which have edges curved toward the cutting edge of the'intermediate portion, the said side portions merging into socket sections, which abut at their longitudinal edges to form a complete socket for the reception of the handle.
In testimony Figure 1, only the whereof I afiix my sigma- FREDERICK TIEMANN.
