UNITED TES PATENT OFFICE.
ATTACHMENT FOR GRUTCHES.
Application led December 7, 1923.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. RosnN- HEIN, ,I r., a citizen of the United States, re-
y siding at Charleston, in the county of Talla-p.
other features of construction and in thev combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a sectional view through the lower end of the crutch showing the invention in use.
Figures 2 and 3 are detail views ofthe device.
In these views, 1 indicates the metal ferrule which is screwed to the bottom of the crutch 2 in the usual manner. This ferrule carries the rubber tip 3 which is screwed into the ferrule, as shown. In carrying out my invention I secure a ring t to the ferrule and provide a cap 5 which is adapted to fit over the rubber 3 and the lower end of the ferrule and to be held in place by the spring latches 6 which pass through holes in the walls of the cap and engage the ring 4:. A disc 7, preferably of leather, is placed in the cap and a second disc 8 of similar material Serial No. 679,249.
is placed over the outer end of the cap and then the two discs are connected together and to the end of the cap by rivets or the like, as shown at 9. The disc 8 is of larger diameter than the cap and a third disc 10 of the same size as the disc 8 is stitched to said disc 8, as shown at ll.
From the above it will be seen that the attachment can be easily and quickly placed on a crutch or removed therefrom without removing the rubber tip and as the two outer discs are sewn together no nails or rivets are exposed to come in contact with the surface. Thus a solid leather surface comes in contact with the surface being walked over so that there is no danger of the crutch slipping. The leather discs 7 and 8 have the bottom of the cap placed between them and the nails or rivets passed through both discs and said bottom.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. An attachment of the class described comprising a cap, means for detachably connecting the same with the end of a crutch, a disc of flexible material engaging the inner face of the bottom of the cap, a similar disc but of larger diameter engaging the outer face of the bottom of the cap, fastening means passing through the two discs and the bottom of the cap and a third disc sewn to the second disk.
2. An attachment for a crutch comprising a cap, spring latch members carried thereby and adapted to engage a projection on the lower end of the crutch and a disc of frictional material connected with the lower end of the cap.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
