CIRCUIT CLOSER FOR ALARMS.

Be it known that FREDERICK RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Circuit Closers for Alarms, of which the following is a specitication.
This invention relates to an electric switch and more particularly to a device adapted to be actuated upon the operation of another member instead of -beinO' actuated directly by hand.
Switches of the character described have particular ut-ility as automatic circuit closers in connection with burglar and thief alarms, whether upon residences, chicken houses, garages or otherwise, though their utility is not limited to that particular ie'ld.

The device of the present invention comprises an ou-ter member consisting of a cylinder 5 having an outer end G and an inner end 7. A block of liber or other insulating materia-l, indicated at 8, is slidably mounted in this shell and is normally pressed outwardly within 4the shell by means of a spring 9. The inner end of this spring is preferably soldered at 10 to the inner edge 7 of this shell and the outer end of the spring bears against the inner end of the block ot insulating material 8. A neck extension 11 formed upon the block 8 projects through an opening 12 formed in the head 6. The shell 5 is of metal and is adapted to have one of the conducting wires 13 of the circuit soldered thereto. The other wire of the circuit, indicated at 14, eztends through an axial opening 15 formed in the block 8 and this axial opening connnunicates, at the juncture of the neck extension 11 with the body of the block 8, with a lateral opening 16 through which the wire 14 extends to the outer surface of the neck extension where it is bent to form a coil 17 which surrounds 7, 1923, serial No. 621,500.

Thus when the block 8 is pressed outward yby the spring 9, the coil 17 is brought into contact with the metallic head G of shell 5 and the circuit is completed through the shell and back to the conductor 13. It is manifest that whenever the extension 11 is pressed inwardly to move the coil 17 away from the head 6, the circuit will be broken. This may be effected in varying ways. One example of the use or the device is given in Fig. 3 where the shcll has been inserted in an opening formed in a. door jamb 1S and in such position that a door 19 hinged to said j'amb at 20 will contact with the extension 11 to thrust it inwardly whenever the door is closed. Thus if an unauthorized person attempts to open the door, which may be the door ot' a chicken house, garage, residence or any other place to be protected, the circuit will be completed and an alarm may be sounded in a well known way.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes fairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claims.
IIa-ving described my invention what I claim is:
1. A device ot the character described comprising a casing of conductive material, a non-conductive block therein having a neck extension extending through an end or' said shell, means tending to press the block ot insulating material toward the end of the shell and a conducting wire extending through the block and terminating in `a coil which surrounds the neck extension at its juncture with said block.
2. A device of' the character described comprising an enclosing cylindrical shell having inner and outer ends, a block of insulating material slidable within the shell, a spring' bearing between the inner end of the shell and said block of insulating material andV tending to thrust said block of insulating material outwardly, said shell being of conductive material, a conductor attached to said shell, a neck extension upon the block and projecting through an end of said shell and a conducting wire extending axially through the insulating block to the juncture of the neck extension with said block and then passing axially through said is forced outwardly under the influence nof 10 neck extension to the outer surface thereof said spring.
